Eli Manning never received a single vote for MVP. Only 2 QB's have failed to do this and made the hall of fame. Both of them retired before the award existed.

I got in an argument the other day about the joke that is Eli Manning's HoF candidacy. The absolute only argument in favor is the 2 super bowl rings, claiming that automatically puts him in. 11 QB's with multiple rings failed to make the HoF before Eli. Granted most of those weren't starters for all of their championships, but some of them were.

The obvious comparison is Jim Plunkett. Plunkett was never considered an elite QB during his career, but known for his tenacity and overcoming adversity. Eli was known for being Peyton's brother, and having a really good defense. Both QB's have the same career winning percentage of .500. Similar to Plunkett, Eli has never been considered even a top 5 QB for even a single season. And Plunkett also had better overall performance in the playoffs than Eli. Plunkett is not in the HoF because he was not very good. He was an okay player who happened to win 2 championships, and doesn't deserve to be in the HoF, and neither does Eli.

But lets not stop there. Lets mention 2 QB's who were very clearly better QB's, and have multiple championships, but aren't in the HoF: Phill Simms and Jack Kemp. Simms has 2 rings. One of those games he didn't start, but only because we was knocked out for the season after dominating all year. He did not have an MVP season, but did have an all-pro selection, and a Jim Thorpe award, which was chosen by players. Simms was consistently amongst the most dominant players at the position throughout his career, amassing a 95-64 career record that would have likely been much better if not for having numerous seasons cut short by injury. Jack Kemp dominated for 10 years, making 5 all-league teams and 1 MVP with 2 championships. The primary knock on him being that he played in the AFL and retired 1 season before the merger to be a Congressman. Then again its called the pro football hall of fame, not the NFL hall of fame.

Eli being considered for the hall of fame is an insult to those guys I mentioned. Its also an insult to guys like Rich Gannon, Joe Theismann, Randall Cunningham, and plenty of others. Its also kind of insulting as a fan who watched him for 14 years during which he was never even considered good.
