Blast from the Past: Ahman Green

Here's another post in my series of Blast From the Past. Ahman Green is an extremely underrated and often forgotten about running back. Coming out of Nebraska, he was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the 3rd round, 76th overall, in the 1998 NFL draft.

While at Nebraska, Green had a monster senior year. He ran for 1,877 yards off of 278 carries for 22 tds at a 6.8 yards per clip.

He only played for the Seahawks for 2 years, posting 329 yards and 1 TD, before being traded to the Green Bay Packers in the 1999 off-season.

He would have a career year, Renaissance, ect whatever adjective you want to throw in here honestly..the dude kicked ass with the Green and Gold.

He went on a 5 year stretch of 1,000 yard seasons and added 48 touchdowns on the ground, cementing himself as one of the greatest to lace it up for the Packers.

His greatest Packer season came in 2003 when he ran for 1,883 and 15 tds for 5.3 yards per carry and having a 98 yard scamper td run. He also added 50 receptions for 367 yards and 5 tds.

While with the Packers, Green posted some great numbers.

Most rushing yards, career: 8,322

Most rushing yards at Lambeau Field, career: 4,507

Most rushing yards at Lambeau Field, game: 218, vs. Denver Broncos, December 28, 2003

Longest run from scrimmage at Lambeau Field, game: 98, vs. Denver Broncos, December 28, 2003

Most rushing yards in a season: 1,883, 2003

Green is most notably known for his career in the Green and Gold, but he did leave them for greener pastures in the Houston Texans. By signing a $23 million dollar deal over 4 years. However, this would prove disastrous for the Texans as he only posted 544 yards and 5 tds for them.

Unfortunately he wasn't able to replicate his success with the Texans and faded into obscurity with a forgettable year with the Packers to round out his final year. Posting 160 yards for 3.9 yards a carry in his final year.

For his career totals, he had:

9,205 yards on 2,056 carries for 4.5 yards per carry with 60 tds and additionally he had 2,883 yards receiving with 378 receptions for 7.6 yards for receptions with 53 receiving touchdowns.

Bottom line, dude was great and has a solidified spot in the Hall of Very Good.

Your thoughts?

I do take requests on players that have been retired for at least 10 years. Let me know, I'll do my best on a write up about them.
