Kevin Durant this season scores 29.5 points using only 17.5 shot attempts. For comparison, Jason Tatum scores 23.5 points despite clocking 22.5 attempts per game - 6 less points with 5 more shots.

Other high volume players:

  • Dame with 20 points on a smooth 19.2 attempts (-9.5 points with the same amount of attempts)
  • Westbrook scores 19.5 points with 17.5 attempts (-10 points for -1.5 shots than KD)
  • Steph scores 28.5 points with 20.5 FGA (so much closer, -1 point for +1.5 attempt)
  • Fox scores 20 on 18 attempts (-9.5 points with -1 attempt)

Also notable is that KD is only shooting 6.5 free throw attempts per game, so the added scoring comes mostly directly from making shots, not the line.

edit: u/bb1432 pointed out that his average for his time in Brooklyn is 17.7 (and in GS it was 17.5) but this season KD goes for 18.9 attempts. I looked at the bottom line in BBRef and thought the last two lines meant the last two seasons. It would seem that with 29.5 points on 19 attempts, KD is actually an inefficient chucker, my b. I've corrected all the numbers in the post. For Tatum it's 6 less points on 3.5 more attempts.
