If LeBron James does not play in at least 3 of the Lakers' 7 remaining games, he will not be eligible for the scoring title.

As can be found on the "Statistical Minimums" section of the NBA's official website, players must play at least 70% of a season's games in order to be eligible for the scoring title.

In an 82-game season, that requires a minimum of 58 games played. LeBron has to this point played 55 games.

Additionally, as reported by Chris Haynes yesterday evening, LeBron is already anticipated to miss Thursday's game against the Utah Jazz.

This would leave him with just 6 games to both ensure his eligibility and maintain his .2 PPG lead over Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid.

Edit:

People are bringing up this exception:

The only exception to this rule will be if, at the end of the season, the player would have led the league in the category had he played the required number of games with his current category total.

For example, if Player A played 56 games and scored 1,590 points (28.4 ppg), Player A could still qualify for the league lead if his average (27.4) with that same point total (1,590) over 58 games was higher than any other player.

This would not apply to LeBron. His current point total (1,657) divided by 58 would leave him at just 28.6 PPG, well below a league-leading rate.

Taking into account Giannis and Embiid's current averages, LeBron would need to play 3 games and average at least 27PPG in those 3 games in order to finish the season in first.
