John Wall since signing a 4 yr / $171 mill supermax: 2019-20 (0 games played, injury), 2020-21 (40 games played, injury), 2021-22 (0 games played, choice), 2022-23 player option (?). Worst contract in NBA history?

Is there another contract in NBA history that's remotely as bad as John Wall? Holy hell, every year he has either been injured or refused to play (unless given a starter role) for a tanking Rockets. And he's got a $47 mill player option in 2022-23 coming up ....

I can't imagine anyone will take John Wall's contract without asking for multiple first round picks. It really is incredible that the Wizards somehow traded John Wall away for cheap, and hell, even got assets back after trading Westbrook .... some wizardry in that FO, pun intended.

There have been some really bad contracts in NBA history: Gilbert Arenas (6 / $111 mill), Bryant Reeves (6 / $62 mill), Joe Smith (7 / $86 mill), Allan Houston (6 / $100 mill), Chandler Parsons (4 / $95 mill), Joakim Noah (4 / $72 mill), and more ...

But I think John Wall has them all beat.

At least until James Harden signs his supermax extension (4 / ~$223 mill) on top of his $47 mill due in 2022-23. Good luck, Sixers.

Edit: For those who keep misunderstanding, I'm not comparing Harden's current contract or play to that of Wall. Obviously, Harden has been much better and absolutely worth his contract so far. I'm talking about his upcoming extension that Philly is likely going to give him that will take him into his age 38 season. I don't think Harden's game is going to age well as his athleticism declines, and imo, his upcoming contract is going to be awful value in the last 2 seasons.
