in Michael Jordan’s last season (at age 39/40), he still played all 82 games and averaged 37.0 minutes, which would lead the league right now

Michael Jordan’s last two seasons with the Washington Wizards were so forgettable that we’d all wish they vanished from history. MJ could still score 20+ PPG, but wasn’t terribly efficient. Worse still, he played for a mediocre team that had no real chance at making waves. The Wizards finished 37-45 both seasons.

That said, I wanted to give Jordan some credit for chugging along and showing up as a pro every night despite the irrelevance of the task at hand. In the last season, he played every single game and averaged 37.0 minutes a night. No player in the NBA right now averages more (although it’s clearly a different era in terms of load management.)

In fact, Jordan seemed to turn up the gas even as the season slipped away. After turning age 40, he played 40+ minutes in 17 of his final 30 games, and even cracked 50+ twice.

Kliff definitely should be, and Stefanski’s seat is getting awfully warm

Only 3 QB’s in the NFL have 3,000+ passing yards and 600+ rushing yards: Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts and… Daniel Jones.

Daniel Jones is in the same company as two MVP candidates. I’m not saying he’s on their level, I’m just saying DJ is a good QB. He doesn’t have a Stefon Diggs or an AJ Brown. Even a Dallas Goedert.

His biggest criticism was his propensity to turn the ball over. Well, with good coaching, he has the fewest turnovers amongst qualified QB’s. He’s done all this behind a below average line save for Andrew Thomas, an inconsistent Saquon and a severe lack of talent at WR.

Is he elite? No. Will he ever be? Probably not… but you can win games with him and he’s able to elevate the players around him.

Is it ok to stop pretending that that the Luka/Trae trade was a win-win for both Dallas and Atlanta yet?

For years now we’ve had to put up with this “it’s a win-win trade” narrative. The main argument for it being a win-win was that Atlanta got another first for it - that first turned out to be Cam Reddish who is no longer on the team and can’t even crack the Knicks rotation.

I’d say the gap between Luka and Trae has always been fairly sizeable but now the gap between the two of them is greater than ever, Luke’s moved into best player in the league conversation whilst Trae is having his worst season since his rookie year.

The argument that the Hawks receiving Reddish made it a fair trade never made much sense to me but now he’s been moved on for practically nothing the argument is completely dead in the water.

They definitely didn’t fuck up as bad as the Kings, probably didn’t fuck up as bad the Suns but it was absolutely still a fuck up. Luka in that Hawks team puts them right up there in Championship contention

[Krawczynski] "[Rudy] Gobert is on the books for four years and $169 million. If the Wolves cannot find a way to consistently unlock a version of him that is much closer to the force he was in Utah, one of the most heavily debated deals of the summer will be no debate at all."

Full article here: https://theathletic.com/4032433/2022/12/27/nba-timberwolves-rudy-gobert/

Jon Krawczynski puts forth scalding criticisms of Rudy Gobert, his play this season, Minnesota's decision to trade for him, and the Wolves overall as a team.

Key points of note:

Thirty-four games into their first season with Gobert, the Timberwolves are faced with a much more concerning possibility that goes far deeper than questions about his fit with the current roster. After watching Gobert get outplayed by a rookie center on a two-way contract in a loss to the severely short-handed Miami Heat on Monday night, the Timberwolves have to ask themselves if the Gobert they got in the trade with the Jazz is a shadow of the player who was such a force in Utah for so many years, or just one that needs a little more time to find his way.

Last season Gobert averaged 15.6 points, a league-leading 14.7 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and shot a league-leading 71.3 percent from the field to make his third straight All-Star game. His numbers so far this season are down sharply across the board — 14.0 points, 12.3 rebounds, 66.2 field goal percentage and, most troubling of all, just 1.2 blocks per game, his lowest number since he played sparingly as a rookie in 2013-14. It just isn’t the same guy yet.

The drop-off was startling against the Heat in Miami, where stars Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo did not play because of injuries. Backup center Dewayne Dedmon was out as well, leaving Erik Spoelstra to start 6-foot-10 rookie Nikola Jovic at center. Max Strus and Caleb Martin, a pair of 6-5 forwards, flanked Jovic in the starting lineup, a trio so small that Gobert should have eaten them alive. ... Instead, Gobert managed just 10 points on 5-for-7 shooting with eight rebounds and zero blocked shots in 31 minutes. The only reason he did not play more was that Finch went with Naz Reid for the bulk of the final five minutes.

The lackluster performance from Gobert led Finch to go with Reid down the stretch. Reid’s defense is not on Gobert’s level, but the Wolves run cleaner offense with him on the floor. Reid finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds in just under 30 minutes. ... The Wolves were plus-13 in Reid’s minutes and outscored by 14 with Gobert on the floor.

No one expects him to be a 30-point scorer, but Gobert was so much bigger than anyone the Heat could throw at him on Monday night. He needs to make them pay for playing as small as they did, but he and the Timberwolves couldn’t take advantage. Part of that is on his teammates. Russell and Anthony Edwards seem to have trouble finding him in the halfcourt against smaller defenders, and the team turned the ball over 22 times on Monday night to short-circuit so many of their possessions practically before they even started.

But Gobert’s struggles with catching passes from his teammates in traffic, securing rebounds that are contested and blocking shots to intimidate opponents have made it difficult for him to inspire faith from his teammates. The ball moves better on offense and the defense is more active, though not as effective, when Gobert is off the floor. The Timberwolves simply cannot afford for that to be the case.

It wasn’t just on the boards where Gobert was a step slow. Coming off a game in Boston where the Celtics pulled him away from the basket to render him ineffective, the smaller Heat just decided to go right at him, unafraid of a man with the reputation as one of the game’s great shot blockers.

It is not time to panic, especially with Towns out. But Gobert’s numbers in aggregate and his inability to impose his will in Miami are the kind of startling snapshots that made his acquisition, and the price the Wolves paid for it, such a questioned move from the moment it was made. So far, all of those doubters have been right. ... There are so many people across the league, and increasingly in the Timberwolves’ pain-stricken fan base, who believe the move was destined to fail.

And to end things:

Yes, they were playing without Towns (calf), Kyle Anderson (non-COVID illness), Taurean Prince (shoulder) and Jordan McLaughlin (calf), four of their top nine players. All four bring attributes to the table that are sorely needed, from Anderson’s playmaking to Prince’s shooting to McLaughlin’s ability to run an offense. And there isn’t enough time to chuckle at the absurd suggestion that frequently popped up after he went down in Washington that this team would be better without Towns on the floor. But this is a roster that was supposed to be able to withstand an injury or two. They still had Edwards, Russell and Gobert in the starting lineup, a former No. 1 overall pick putting things together in his third season, a $30 million point guard and a $38 million center. That should have been more than enough to beat an aging Lowry, an erratic Herro and Max Strus.

Instead, it was a 22-year-old undrafted rookie from Fresno State who had the greater impact on Monday night in Miami. Gobert is on the books for four years and $169 million. If the Wolves cannot find a way to consistently unlock a version of him that is much closer to the force he was in Utah, one of the most heavily debated deals of the summer will be no debate at all.

James Harden on tying The 76ers single game assist record: “I wish somebody would’ve told me that! I would’ve tried to get 22! I’m pissed at one of my teammates for missing a layup or an easy shot. Nah, I’m playing.”

Source: https://sixerswire.usatoday.com/2022/12/23/james-harden-reacts-to-tying-single-game-sixers-assist-record-vs-clippers/

In the process, Harden tied a Sixers franchise record in assists in a game with 21. He joins Mo Cheeks and Wilt Chamberlain with the record.

“I wish somebody would’ve told me that! I would’ve tried to get 22!” Harden laughed after the win. “I’m pissed at one of my teammates for missing a layup or an easy shot. Nah, I’m playing.”

“That’s rare company,” Harden reflected. “Mo Cheeks was one of my coaches in OKC and then Wilt, I feel like he has every record. Just always and be in the conversation of some of the best basketball players to touch a basketball is a blessing. Hopefully, I can keep going and get more records.”

“I just do what I do,” Harden added. “Honestly, I feel really good and just trying to get to that paint and they do a really good job of using their length. They’re a really long team, they switch, they do a really good job of switching so I tried to press the paint and really try and find matchups that work in our advantage that really make the game easier for all of us and guys knock down shots, Joel did a really good job of getting to his spots. It was a total team effort.”

There are those in the organization whose eyebrows were raised in the summer when Barnes would flit in and out of team runs in both Las Vegas and Los Angeles.

Having watched almost every game last season and about every game so far this season, it’s hard to see any one area of the game that Barnes is better at in his second year than he was in his first.

The numbers are down, his impact on games is down, his enthusiasm seems down and 30 or so games of stagnation has been a significant factor in the tough start to the Raptors season.

Raptors fans are intimately familiar with the likes of DeMar DeRozan, Fred VanVleet, Pascal Siakam and even Kyle Lowry going away for a summer and coming back with something added to their game.

Barnes didn’t do that last year. He better do it this summer and he should be doing as much as he can in-season, too.

Is Victor Wembanyama's injury history concerning?

Victor Wembanyama is pretty hyped right now, but is his injury concerning?

Injury History:

Jun 2022 - Psoas muscle (lower lumbar region of the spine) - missed part of French playoffs, Eurobasket

Dec 2021 - Shoulder contusion - missed 2 months

Nov 2021 - Finger break - missed 1 month

Dec 2020 - Stress fracture in fibula - 3 months

At 7'3, he's going to be one of the tallest NBA players ever. In the history of the league, there are 26 players at that height or taller with only 12 playing for at least 2 seasons.

The only stars in that bracket are Kristaps Porziņģis, Yao Ming, Arvydas Sabonis, and Ralph Sampson. All of them were very talented but were burdened with injuries. It's clearly a concern for players of that height.

As of now, the only ones that worry me are the stress fracture and the back injury both of which aren't a good thing for bigs.

Is his injury history concerning?

Of the twelve teams that have not won a Super Bowl which team would you LEAST like to see win it?

Damian Lillard on greatest 3pt shooters: “Obviously I think Steph is the greatest ever, but I think after him, I don’t see why I’m not clear-cut in that discussion, not just by makes, but how I shoot it, how I make tough ones all the time, how easy I shoot the ball."

https://www.nba.com/blazers/news/lillard-passes-18k-points-moves-up-nba-and-franchise-top-10s-in-win-versus-rockets

The full quote is seen here:

Lillard, who reached 2,222 three-pointers in nearly half the number of games that Crawford, Terry and LeBron James, who is ninth all-time, needed to make the Top 10, also took the opportunity to wonder why he’s not considered one of the league all-time great shooters despite his ranking. He was quick to note that Stephen Curry, whose 3,248 threes is first on the all-time list by a considerable margin, is the best shooter in NBA history, but that he’s no slouch either, despite what some of his detractors might argue.

“I always see stuff on social media where they talk about the greatest shooters of all-time and they always act like it’s just crazy for people to mention me,” said Lillard. “I think for how many threes I’ve made, for how consistent I make them, the level of difficulty that I shoot threes with over years and years and years, I just think it’s kind of crazy people don’t mention me in those discussions.

“Obviously I think Steph is the greatest ever, but I think after him, I don’t see why I’m not clear-cut in that discussion, not just by makes, but how I shoot it, how I make tough ones all the time, how easy I shoot the ball. I’m looking forward to keep climbing that list so once I get up there in that top two, top three, I’m curious to see what people will say about me as a shooter at that point.”

[Weitzman] Harden and Durant, according to multiple Nets sources, butted heads during the season – Durant didn’t think Harden was in peak physical shape, and told him as much.

First, there was the whole Kyrie Irving vaccination mess. Also, Harden and Durant, according to multiple Nets sources, butted heads during the season – Durant didn’t think Harden was in peak physical shape, and told him as much; Harden, meanwhile, struggled to adjust to an ecosystem where everything was no longer catered to him. According to a friend, Harden also became frustrated with the Nets training staff and its focus on maintenance, rest and recovery; after all, in Houston he'd run stadium stairs and lift – even after games sometimes – and he never got hurt.

“I don't mean to, like, just down talk to anybody or whatever. It was just, there was no structure and even superstars, they need structure. That’s what allows us to be the best players and leaders for our respective organizations,” Harden said.

“I just feel like,” Harden continued, “internally, things weren't what I expected when I was trying to get traded there. I think everybody knows that. And I knew people were going to talk and say, ‘You quit’ and all that stuff, but then the following summer, the other superstar there [Durant] wanted to leave. So it’s like: Am I still the quitter?”

[Amick] According to a source with knowledge of the Lakers’ plans, Westbrook’s play this past month has made it increasingly unlikely that he will be traded before the league’s Feb. 9 deadline.

Source

Russell Westbrook, who took so much blame for the Lakers’ early struggles this season that the name on his jersey should have read “Fall Guy,” provided much of the spark for the Lakers’ surge from 20 points down. And when he swatted a Jaylen Brown attempt at the rim after tracking him for the entire length of the floor — en route to finishing with 20 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, four blocks, two turnovers and a minus-1 rating — a nearby fan could be heard shouting the kind of encouragement that was nowhere to be found not too long ago: “Good job, Russ!”

According to a source with knowledge of the Lakers’ plans, Westbrook’s play this past month has made it increasingly unlikely that he will be traded before the league’s Feb. 9 deadline. Since becoming a sixth man on Oct. 28, the 34-year-old, who is in the final year of his (massive) contract, has averaged 15.2 points, 7.9 assists, 5.8 rebounds, 3.8 turnovers and 28.2 minutes. For the sake of perspective, only six players (Luka Dončić, Nikola Jokić, Ja Morant, Pascal Siakam, Jrue Holiday and James Harden) have met those 15-7–and-5 marks so far this season. The Lakers have gone 11-12 in that span.

But in terms of the Westbrook calculus, and the general question of whether he can help them recover from the 2-10 start to becoming a potent playoff team, there’s also a strong sense that the Lakers believe Westbrook’s contributions will only improve from here. First-year coach Darvin Ham deserves all sorts of credit here, as he managed to navigate Westbrook’s initial frustration with the decision to bring him off the bench.

Westbrook may not be thrilled with the role, but his improved play and intensity speak volumes about his willingness to accept the reality that it’s the right move for this team. This is why Lakers owner Jeanie Buss was known to be reluctant to give up on Westbrook in those days leading into training camp, when they came so close to doing the well-chronicled deal with Indiana that would have sent Westbrook to the Pacers in exchange for big man Myles Turner and sharpshooter Buddy Hield.

In the wake of the Lakers’ decision to fire former coach Frank Vogel, Ham had made it clear in the interview process that he would be willing to have these kinds of hard conversations with any individual for the sake of the collective. And while these Lakers (11-16; 12th in the West) are still a long way from salvaging this season, the notion of Westbrook being the root of all their problems is no more.

Most Hated NFL Team by Team: RESULTS (OC)

Hey all! So last week, I posted a poll to each NFL Subreddit looking to primarily answer one question: Which NFL teams are the most/least united in their hatred for a single enemy? To my surprise, I received almost 20,000 responses! 19,660 to be exact. However, there were 4 team subreddits that didn't allow me to post on their team subreddit, and because of that I did not have sufficient data for those teams. Those teams were:

- Browns (Mods didn't respond)

- Bucs (Mods said polls aren't allowed)

- Eagles (Mods said it would be allowed in offseason, not in regular season)

- Jaguars (Mods never responded)

Some polls were banned by automod but later reinstated, and it seems like the poll got a bit less traction because of it in some of those subreddits. I should have just reposted the poll, but didn't realize until I was collecting data at the end. I say this not to make anyone upset at any particular moderator group, but just to qualify the data I'm presenting because it does not include sufficient data from every fan base, and there are some that have enough responses (100+ was the benchmark I set before posting the poll) but should have gotten more if not for my own ineptitude. The teams with the highest number of responses are:

MOST RESPONSIVE FAN-BASES:

  1. Green Bay Packers: 2,968 Responses
  2. San Francisco 49ers: 1,280 Responses
  3. Seattle Seahawks: 1,056 Responses
  4. Carolina Panthers: 1,003 Responses
  5. New York Jets: 1,001 Reponses

Maybe these are the most active communities? Maybe these communities just upvoted and commented on my post more than others? Whatever the reason, these communities had the most responses, and communities with more responses might influence the overall numbers a bit more.

Without further ado, here are some of my findings:

MOST HATED NFL TEAMS (OVERALL):

  1. New England Patriots: 12.9%
  2. Dallas Cowboys: 9.7%
  3. Green Bay Packers: 8.3%
  4. Minnesota Vikings: 7.7%
  5. Philadephia Eagles: 5.9%

The Patriots and Cowboys at the top surprises absolutely no one. The Vikings are probably not actually this hated, but the Packers-most hated team is bound to crack the top 5 given that they had over double the responses of the second most responsive team. This is worth looking at, but the following chart is the most interesting piece of data imo.

TEAMS MOST UNITED IN THEIR HATRED FOR A SINGLE TEAM:

1. Chicago Bears Packers (92.2%) Cowboys (2.3%) Bears (1.6%)
2. New York Jets Patriots (89.3%) Bills (2.5%) Dolphins (2.4%)
3. Atlanta Falcons Saints (86.5%) Patriots (4.7%) Bucs (3.2%)
4. Dallas Cowboys Eagles (83.%) Packers (6.0%) Patriots/Giants (1.5%)
5. Cincinnati Bengals Steelers (82.0%) Browns (10.2%) Ravens (3.1%)
6. Detroit Lions Packers (77.5%) Cowboys (7.8%) Patriots/Browns (1.5%)
7. Los Angeles Rams 49ers (75.0%) Cowboys (6.7%) Patriots (5.5%)
8. Minnesota Vikings Packers (72.9%) Eagles (10.6%) Saints (9.2%)
9. Washington Commanders Cowboys (68%) Eagles (22.0%) Commanders (3.5%)
10. Los Angeles Chargers Raiders (60.3%) Chiefs (22.8%) Cowboys (4.2%)
11. New Orleans Saints Falcons (60.0%) Bucs (16.5%) Vikings (7.5%)
12. Buffalo Bills Patriots (56.4%) Dolphins (16.8%) Chiefs (12.5%)
13. Indianapolis Colts Patriots (51.8%) Titans (22.0%) Steelers (7.3%)
14. Las Vegas Raiders Chiefs (51.5%) Broncos (17.0%) Chargers (11.7%)
15. Green Bay Packers Vikings (49.6%) Bears (17.6%) Cowboys (14.5%)
16. Baltimore Ravens Steelers (48.4%) Browns (20.9%) Bengals (14.8%)
17. New York Giants Eagles/Cowboys (46.6%) Cowboys/Eagles (46.6%) Patriots (1.8%)
18. Kansas City Chiefs Raiders (46.3%) Bengals (17.8%) Broncos (13.7%)
19. San Francisco 49ers Seahawks (42.3%) Cowboys (22.9%) Rams (14.8%)
20. Tennessee Titans Colts (39.1%) Ravens (29.0%) Eagles (6.6%)
21. Carolina Panthers Saints (37.6%) Falcons (17.7%) Cowboys (9.7%)
22. Denver Broncos Raiders (36.7%) Chiefs (28.5%) Seahawks (9.5%)
23. Seattle Seahawks 49ers (33.0%) Rams (31.4%) Steelers (13.9%)
24. New England Patriots Jets (32.0%) Bills (14.3%) Chiefs (9.8%)
25. Miami Dolphins Jets (30.3%) Patriots (30.0%) Bills (28.6%)
26. Pittsburgh Steelers Browns (28.8%) Bengals (23.2%) Ravens (21.8%)
27. Houston Texans Cowboys (27.9%) Colts (18.9%) Titans/Browns (15.6%)
28. Arizona Cardinals Rams (24.2%) Seahawks (16.3%) Cowboys (12.9%)

Some interesting notes:

  • The Packers, Raiders and Patriots both appeared 3 times as the "most hated team" of another team, but all 3 of the Packers' appearances make the top 10 including the number 1 spot. So the Packers have clearly done quite the number on the NFC North, but I'm sure is surprises no one that no one hates anyone else as much as the Bears hate the Packers.
  • The 15 teams that are not the most hated team for any other NFL team are: Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Chargers, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders.
  • The 4 teams that didn't even make it in to anyone's top 3 are: the Houston Texans, the Detroit Lions, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Washington Commanders. Well, the Commanders made it into their own top 3 but I won't count that for this statistic. Sorry it seems like everyone forgot about you.
  • The most self-loathing team by votes was: the Arizona Cardinals. They received 6.5% of their own votes.
  • The New York Giants were the only team to have a tie for first place. They clearly hate the Cowboys and Eagles both very much, but couldn't seem to decide which one they hated more with both teams receiving exactly 274 votes. It's impressive that they made it to 17th place even with that.
  • The Miami Dolphins were the most evenly split among the top 3, with their 3rd most hated team still receiving 28.6% of votes.
  • The Indianapolis Colts and the Houston Texans are the only 2 teams to hate a team outside of their division the most unanimously, voting for the Patriots and Cowboys respectively. The Texans hating the Cowboys makes sense as an in-state rivalry, but I was surprised by the Colts vote; I'm sure someone can explain in the comments.
  • I personally voted for the San Francisco Forty Whiners. I hope your team misses the playoffs for the next 100 seasons after this one but I'm annoyed that you guys will probably continue to alternate between making deep playoff runs and choking at the end or with all of your players being injured and getting a high draft pick in the process.

I also asked what everyone's second favorite NFL team was, but those numbers aren't nearly as interesting. There doesn't seem to be a particularly strong correlation between first and second favorite team, but the top 3 results are:

  1. None. I only root for my own team. (38.9%)

  2. Buffalo Bills (10.6%)

  3. Detroit Lions (4.0%)

  4. Cincinnati Bengals (3.7%)

Feel free to ask questions in the comments and I'll do my best to answer! Thanks for everyone who answered and I hope you all found this as interesting as i did.

Today, Brady could throw his 100th regular season touchdown - since turning 43 years old.

Brady currently has 99TD passes in 45 regular season games since turning 43 years old.
In those 45 games, he has thrown for 295 yards per game and 99-27 TD/INT.

To compare that, only four other QBs in NFL history have thrown touchdown passes after turning 43 - they combine for 22-20 TD/INT (Blanda 12 TD, Testaverde 6, DeBerg 3, Moon 1).

Looking at playoffs after 43, Brady is 13-4 TD/INT and the rest of NFL history is 2-3 TD/INT.

That would total Brady 112-31 TD/INT and the rest 24-23 TD/INT.

To compare those 112 passing touchdowns since Brady turned 43 ( so since the beginning of the 2020 season) with the other active QBs, Brady is T-2nd (with Rodgers and Allen) only behind Mahomes (120 TD passes).

Learn Python with the NBA Giveaway!

Hi everyone,

I recently came out with a course on learning Python with NBA data for complete beginners. (some of you may know me from /r/fantasyfootball)

Link to the course here

This is a giveaway I'm doing for lifetime access. Just upvote and comment anything below to enter.

For those who don't know, Python is a beginner friendly programming language that's very popular for data analysis. As a first programming language, it's a perfect fit for a beginner who wants to learn a programming language and is obsessed with basketball.

The overall goal of the course is to introduce coding to you through a fun and engaging subject matter you probably enjoy if you're on this sub - basketball. A lot of people have reported back to me that my courses are the thing that finally got programming to "click" for them after countless udemy courses and e-books. I dont think thats because I'm the best coding educator out there. There's some great out ones there, prob better than me, who I've learned a ton from and owe a lot to like Brad Traversy, Cody Schafer, and Sentdex. I actually think the reason is because the best and most engaging to learn to code is through subject matters that interest you. For example, a lot of beginner data science courses start you out by predicting housing prices. That's fine, but wouldn't it be more interesting and engaging to introduce you to predictive analysis by teaching you to make a model to predict the NBA MVP this season?

With this in mind, each section of the course has some sort of basketball/NBA focus, all along the way introducing you to more and more complex programming/data science topics. The course walks you through the set up of Python, all the way to writing machine learning models to predict points scored for the season for certain players, predict who will be MVP, and rank players into tiers for fantasy basketball. It comes with 10 sections of material, 8 hours of video, and access to a Slack channel where you can personally ask me questions when you get stuck (I'm on Slack all day so I usually respond pretty quickly).

Anyway, the mods ok'd it, so I figured id do a giveaway - just upvote and comment anything below, and I'll randomly select (with a python script, of course) 10 people to get free lifetime access to the course after the Nuggets game tonight. (Will select more if a lot of people enter)

Thanks for reading. You guys are awesome

And good luck!

edit:

Some ppl asked about cost. It’s $55, but you can use the code NBA for $15 off

[Ellis] Multiple sources tell me that the Spurs are once again open for business on the trade market. Asking price for Poeltl continues to be a pair of FRPs with limited protections. According to a pair of sources, the 2teams most persistent about acquiring Poeltl are the Raptors & Warriors.

Source

Last month, the San Antonio Spurs took all trade proposals off the table as the franchise dealt with the Joshua Primo bombshell. Now that the Primo situation is settled, multiple sources tell me that the Spurs are once again open for business on the trade market.

While no specific trade is imminent, all indications point to the fact that the Spurs are as active on the trade front as they’ve been since the start of training camp.

-The player that the Spurs get the most inquiries about is Jakob Poeltl. San Antonio’s asking price for Poeltl continues to be a pair of first round picks with limited protections.

According to a pair of sources, the two teams most persistent about acquiring Poeltl are the Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors. The talks with the Raptors date back to last season’s trade deadline, but Toronto remains hesitant to offer anything more than a package highlighted by a single first round draft pick with moderate protections.

The Warriors, on the other hand, are said to be primarily interested in finding a way to flip James Wiseman for Poeltl. However, sources say the Spurs have indicated to the Warriors that they aren’t interested in Wiseman as a centerpiece of a Poeltl trade. I’m also hearing that the Spurs aren’t high on Jonathan Kuminga either, which means a deal with the Warriors will likely only get done if Golden State is willing to part with sufficient draft capital.

Interestingly, I’m told the Spurs actually value Moses Moody more than Wiseman or Kuminga but that they’d still want a lot more in a trade involving Poeltl.

-If the Spurs don’t get their asking price for Poeltl, expect the team to hold onto him instead of selling him to the highest bidder at the trade deadline. While preparing for Victor Wembanyama, San Antonio has come to the conclusion that Poeltl would be a perfect fit next to the young Frenchman.

-Another interesting development is word that Poeltl may prefer to stay with the Spurs. To make sure that happens, he would sign a four-year, $58 million extension. That’s the maximum amount of money the Spurs could give him in an extension during the season.

[Fischer] “Luka is a generational talent. You have to put the perfect team around him to try to get the maximum out of him, you know?” Porzingis said. “I just wasn’t the right guy.”

The Mavericks quietly sniffed around Porzingis’ trade market. Surgeries in both his knees had sapped much of his mobility, when Dallas’ defensive ideology was predicated on its center stalking the back line as a fearsome rim protector. Come the 2021 playoffs, Rick Carlisle, in what amounted to his final season coaching the Mavericks, often stranded Porzingis in the corners, watching Doncic pound the rock in high-screen action just like any other floor spacer on the Mavericks’ roster.

“Luka is a generational talent. You have to put the perfect team around him to try to get the maximum out of him, you know?” Porzingis said. “I just wasn’t the right guy.”

He’d been reduced to the priciest spot-up shooter in the league. And Porzingis still struggled under Jason Kidd. As the February 2022 trade deadline approached, Dallas began to explore its options in earnest, sources said, searching how to break Porzingis’ gargantuan salary into more useful parts to complement Doncic’s solo act.
