Alex Schiffer from The Atheltic on the DeAndre Jordan situation said that DeAndre Jordan went to Kenny Aktinson, Jacque Vaughn and Steve Nash (before the Harden trade) and demanded to start over Jarrett Allen. All three coaches were hesitant to make the coaching change, but were willing to listen to the demand because of Jordan's friendship with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.

According to Fischer, Brooklyn never expressed interest in signing DeAndre Jordan and that his contract was agreed to after Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving agreed to sign.

At the trade deadline a trade between the Hornets and the Nets was discussed that would've sent Jordan to the Hornets to be their starting center.
