It’ll have been exactly three years since LeBron James and Kevin Durant played against one another when they face off on Christmas this year.
Since then, LeBron has been a 3x All-Star, 3x All-NBA, a champion and a Finals MVP.
LeBron was 33 (Year 16) when they last played, and will be 5 days short of 37 (Year 19) when they meet again.
Kevin Durant on the other hand, has made 2x All-Star, an All-NBA, a Finals appearance (albeit short in 2019), and has switched teams and conferences.
Durant was 30 (Year 12), and is/will be 33 (Year 15) on Christmas Day.
He also made the most impressive comeback for a player from an Achilles injury in the history of basketball.
I couldn’t believe that they hadn’t actually suited up against one another in three years, but a plethora of injuries on both sides prevented head-to-head match ups. Both guys have been nothing short of marvellous headed into the back-half their careers.
Matchup Stats: LeBron James leads their regular season head-to-head matchups with a W-L of 15-6.
Kevin Durant leads their playoffs (and finals) head-to-head matchups with a W-L of 9-5.
Random trivia: Durant is also 6-2 against LeBron in all-star games, excluding games where they were teammates or Durant was injured. (2018-2021).
TL;DR It’s been a while since LeBron and Durant have faced off against one another.
Oh, and there’s been an entire pandemic since then as well.
