[Highlight] Carson Wentz with one of the worst thrown pick sixes you'll ever see
[Holdahl] CJ McCollum: “I get my respect on the 1st and the 15th. I don’t need people to like my game, I don’t need people to say great things about me. I get great deposits, my teammates respect me, the staff respects me, the organization respects me and I think that’s what really matters…”
So when McCollum says “I’m here,” it’s hard not to wonder if perhaps he’s speaking еxplicitly to those who chеer him on when he’s doing things like hitting back-to-back three-pointers to put away the defending Western Conference champs with a whole quarter to play, yet also throwing his name into every possible tradе sеenario once the final buzzer sounds. Or those who follow him on sоcial yet fill up his fеeds with suggestions that they’d rather he ply his tradе elsewhere. Or just the gardеn variеty hatеrs who simply need a foil in order to reach their goal of remaining as misеrable as possible. Perhaps.
“I don’t have to answer to anybody,” said McCollum. “I answer to my Lord and Savior, I don’t answer to nobody else. I’ve got nothing to prove to nobody.”
But while McCollum says he doesn’t require the validation of his detractors, he’s not above not-so-subtle suggestions that the aforementioned don’t necessarily have it all figured out either.
“I get my respect on the 1st and the 15th,” said McCollum. “I don’t need people to like my game, I don’t need people to say great things about me. I get great deposits, my teammates respect me, the staff respects me, the organization respects me and I think that’s what really matters. And those who know basketball, I think they respect me, too. I go hoop man. I heard what was said about me, I hear what’s said about me all the time. And I go do my job.”
After a so-so start to the season, the Trail Blazers look as though they’re making significant progress under Billups, with McCollum’s play being one of the primary reasons they’ve gotten off to a 3-2 start with wins versus the Suns, Grizzlies and Clippers. Portland is 6th in defensive rating and 8th in offensive rating, and considering McCollum has played more minutes thus far than anyone on the team, it’s fair to assume he’s one of the primary reasons for that early-season success. Now in his ninth season, McCollum knows who he is, what he wants and where he’s at, both professionally and personally (“I just bought 380 acres bro!” a reference to his recent purchase of a large plot of land outside of Carlton), and he doesn’t mind tell you about it.
“I read everything, I see everything, I hear what people say about me and all that stuff, and that’s a part of the game,” said McCollum. “But I’m going to go out there and hoop and do my job. People that don’t know will know. And the people that already know are the ones that pay me the big bucks.

Honoring Ernie Johnson’s Son
As you all may know, Ernie Johnson’s son, Michael, passed away this week. I love Ernie and I can’t imagine the sadness he must be feeling. Ernie has a foundation called the “Love You Too” Foundation, which they named after Michael’s favorite phrase. I think it would be cool if the members of r/nba donated whatever they could to the Love You Too Foundation as a way of honoring Michael and showing our love for Ernie! Link is below:

Sure enough, Sexton’s side originally asked for the type of money De’Aaron Fox and Jamal Murray received, according to one source with knowledge of the talks. Both young guards received max contracts and had numbers comparable to Sexton, but the Cavs weren’t interested in anything close to that.
Ultimately, one source with knowledge of the negotiations said the Cavs determined they wanted to see how Sexton fit alongside Mobley, who is clearly the future of the franchise. With Garland due for a big-money extension next summer and Jarrett Allen already on the books for $100 million, the Cavs were hesitant to do anything lofty with Sexton until they see how he fits now.

I don't see many people talking about it, but Mo Bamba has taken an insane leap
Bamba has been great this year. He's averaging 14pts/10reb/2ast/2blk while shooting 41% from 3. He's playing 33mpg and only averaging 2.5 fouls per game. His on/off this season has been an insane +27.7
This is from a guy who showed almost nothing in his first 3 seasons in the league. A guy who got less minutes per game in his 3rd season than he did in his rookie season. Bamba ranked 413th in RAPTOR last season and 262nd in RPM, tied with Jahmi'us Ramsey (?).
Is Bamba going from bust territory to being a legitimately great player in 1 offseason the most surprising development of the season?

[The Athletic] Rick Carlisle: “I think I saw Kevin Durant wind up and throw the ball overhand, 10 or 15 rows into the stands and not get ejected… I'm not going to share the explanation because I don't want to embarrass the officials. I don't want to embarrass the league.”
Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle said he was shocked that Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant was not ejected after throwing the ball into the stands during the Nets' win Friday night. After being fouled with 4:40 left in the third quarter, Durant threw the ball overhand toward the hoop, and it sailed over the backboard and into the crowd.
"I think I saw Kevin Durant wind up and throw the ball overhand, 10 or 15 rows into the stands and not get ejected," Carlisle said with a laugh after the game. "I think that's what I saw. And so that was shocking."
Asked what the officials' explanation was for not ejecting Durant, Carlisle replied, "I'm not going to share the explanation because I don't want to embarrass the officials. I don't want to embarrass the league. These guys are nice guys. They just made a big error. The league will address it."
"You don't want to hear the explanation," continued Carlisle, who is the president of the National Basketball Coaches Association. "And at this point, it doesn't matter, because it's not going to change the outcome. But it's something that's a significant thing that just can't be missed, that's all."

Fact that may only interest me: Josh Green, Jeff Green and JaMychal Green were on the court at the same time last night.
They should really fix that. How good would the All-Green team be? Add Javonte, Draymond and Danny.
[Mayo] Where is Rui Hachimura? According to multiple sources, Hachimura hasn’t been in the practice facility at the same time as his teammates. “We haven’t seen him at all,” one source told me. “Maybe he does individual workouts at night, I’m not sure. We have no idea what’s going on with him.”
The Washington Wizards are 4-1 for the first time since the 2014-15 season (shoutout Martell Webster) but after the high of every victory wears off, one question remains for fans, media members, and even Wizards players:
Where is Rui Hachimura?
Hachimura was given an excused absence due to personal reasons back in September (first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic) causing him to miss Wizards training camp. Fast forward, and Hachimura still hasn’t joined the team.
Not only has he not joined the team, nobody has seen him.
According to multiple sources, Hachimura hasn’t been in the practice facility at the same time as his teammates. “We haven’t seen him at all,” one source told me. “Maybe he does individual workouts at night, I’m not sure. We have no idea what’s going on with him.”
Throughout the week, head coach Wes Unseld Jr. is continually pestered with questions regarding Hachimura’s status — the answers have been repetitive, but dense.
“There’s no timetable on his return,” Unseld has said multiple times. “We’re still bringing him along slowly…I can’t comment next month or next week. We’ll see how it goes.”
Back on the 27th of September, I reported that Hachimura’s absence was due to his mental health. During the summer, Hachimura participated in The Tokyo Games for host country Japan which was a huge deal for everyone involved. The Japanese men’s basketball team was on the world’s biggest stage for the first time since the 1976 Montreal Olympics, more than 20 years before Hachimura was born. Hachimura and women’s freestyle wrestler Yui Susaki were Japan’s two flagbearers for the Opening Ceremony on July 23 at the New National Stadium – an honor of great magnitude. Unfortunately, Japan dropped three provisional games at the Olympics, eliminating any hopes of a storybook ending. Hachimura put up 20 points (8-21 FG, 4-11 3P), two rebounds and one assist against Spain, 34 points (13-28 FG, 3-6 3P), seven rebounds, and three assists against Slovenia, and finished with 13 points (6-17 FG, 1-4 3P), 11 rebounds and two assists against Argentina.
“Whether it’s on defense or offense, I play to win,” Hachimura said following the loss to Argentina. “It doesn’t matter how many I score or don’t score. And seeing that we lost again, I don’t think I did enough.”
There has been chatter among the team that maybe Rui’s absence has something to do with the Olympics and the lack of success achieved in his home country, but still, no one is quite sure.
“What’s weird is Rui’s name is sort of taboo around here – nobody mentions him or anything,” another source added. “You probably know more than we do at this point when it comes to what’s going on with Ru.”

[Saints] Ingram said the Texans said if any other team had called about trading for him, it wouldn't have been a discussion but out of respect for him and how he started here they wanted to give him the option
After being traded to the Saints, Mark Ingram has a chance to become the first player to play in 18 regular season games in a single season.
Before the trade, the Texans had yet to have their bye week. The Saints had a bye in Week 6, meaning they, including Ingram, are slated to play the remaining 11 weeks of the season.

[Youngmisuk] Joe Tsai on 'Stand with Kyrie' prоtesters: “It's cavalier for people to hijack something like this when life & death is at stake. People shouldn't make it into a pоlitical issue. These guys are nоt basketball fans. They could care less whether someone is on the court playing or not.”
A group of protesters gathered outside Barclays Center prior to the team's home opener last Sunday. They were holding "Stand with Kyrie" signs and chanting, "No vaccine mandate. Stand with Kyrie." At one point, a handful of those demonstrators tried to make their way to the front door of Barclays Center before being held off by security.
"I just think that it's cavalier for people to hijack something like this when life and death is at stake," Tsai said. "People shouldn't make it into a political issue. So when you see protestors, they're definitely making a political statement. These guys are not basketball fans. They could care less whether someone is on the court playing or not.
"They're hijacking the issue, but it's dangerous because we have a life and death situation. The fact is, if you are not vaccinated and you catch COVID, you have a much higher probability of getting very, very sick and end up in the ICU and possibly die. That's the consequence."
Tsai has been a major advocate of getting vaccinated.
"I don't think it's a matter of belief," said Tsai, one of the co-founders, board of directors members and executive vice chairman of Alibaba Group. "I think it's a matter of fact. It's science.
"... We're now able to open up the economy, people are able to socialize, go to games, full capacity Barclays Center, because people are vaccinated. That is just a fact. I don't think it is a belief one way or the other."
(ESPN) Trae Young speaks out on new rules, frustrated with 'missed calls'
“There's a lot of missed calls," he said. "It's basketball. It's just, it feels that they're learning, and they're just -- I don't know. It's frustrating."
"I saw James said it's about him, but it's not targeting just one player or two players," Young said.
“You can watch basketball. Damian Lillard's never averaged 17 points probably since his rookie year," Young said. "There's a couple guys. I mean, Book's averaging 18. There's a lot of things that, when guys are driving straight and guys are getting knocked off balance -- it's still a foul, whether they're using their lower body or their hands."
Trae is averaged 8.7 free throw attempts a game last season. This season he is averaging 4.4 this season after taking only three Thursday.

In exclusive interview with Joe Tsai, Nets owner tells NetsDaily, “I have all the patience in the world with Kyrie. He’s on the roster, just not on the court.” Tsai said he’s had “multiple conversations” with Irving but he’s tried not to evangelize. Bottom line: Nothing new.

This sub loves piling on the Lakers, but why is no one talking about the defending Western Conference Champion Suns being 1-3?
I didn’t realize until now that the Suns are currently 1-3.. why is no-one talking about this?
They lost to a mediocre Kings team a couple days ago and nearly lost by 30 pts to the Trailblazers with a struggling Damian Lillard. And from what I know they’re just about fully healthy.
For anyone actively watching the Suns this season, what’s the main reason for the early season struggles? You would think they’d have a bunch of momentum to start the season after their amazing Finals run..
[Adrian Wojnarowski] Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams is expected to miss the rest of the regular season with a left wrist dislocation, source tells ESPN. He will undergo surgery soon.
There have been 16 quadruple doubles with points, rebounds, assists and turnovers in NBA History. Russell Westbrook has 6 of them.
Just heard Tim McMahon say this on the latest Hoop Collective podcast.
Also found this tweet by StatMuse that gives some additional context to the historical significance of this stat line:
Full Russell Westbrook experience tonight.
20 PTS 14 REB 13 AST 10 TOV 2 TECHS
It’s his 6th quadruple-hobble of his career, the most by a player since the 3-point era (1980). Next closest player has half that (Harden with 3).
That’s nuts.
Edit: Westbrook and Harden combine for 56% of the league’s 16 “triple-hobbles”
[Yates] Packers RB A.J. Dillon was awesome last night, picking up several key first downs and gains. Dillon has averaged 2.47 yards after contact per carry since entering the league last season. No player in the NFL (min. 100 rushes) has averaged more than Dillon during that time 🚜🚜
So where's that Sarver story at?
A few days ago there was a big hullabaloo about Sarver being implicated in all kinds of bad stuff on a business and personal side. Sarver and his team categorically denied all of it. There was Earl Watson on record apparently... . . . So where it is? What a tease.
[The Athletic] Westbrook is averaging more turnovers (6.0) than everyone in the league not named Kevin Porter Jr. (6.3). The not-so-silver lining? Sacramento’s Buddy Hield, is shooting 44.2% from beyond the arc while taking 10.8 attempts per game (second in the league behind Golden State’s Curry).
Westbrook is averaging more turnovers (6.0) than everyone in the league not named Kevin Porter Jr. (6.3).
He has missed 19 of 23 3-pointers so far (17.4 percent). The silver lining? At least he’s off to a better long-range start than Damian Lillard (17.1) and De’Aaron Fox (16.7).
The not-so-silver lining? Sacramento’s Buddy Hield, the player who came so close to being traded to the Lakers, instead of Westbrook, and whose spacing would certainly come in handy right about now, is shooting 44.2 percent from beyond the arc while taking 10.8 attempts per game (second in the league behind Golden State’s Curry).
The massive divide between the Lakers’ net rating when he’s on the court (minus-9.3) and off (plus-12.7) is surely enough to keep Lakers coach Frank Vogel up at night.

JJ Redick on the evolution of the game "I've tried to provide some middle ground where I acknowledge their greatness in their era. But one of my favourite things a player has said is when Austin Rivers said if he played against Bob Cousy he would be a hall of famer...cz he is not wrong
Other quotes from the pod
"Here is my issue with the old timers when they shit on us saying we couldn't play in their era..I would say this and I don't think this is a hot take..most nba players in today's era could play in any era in the NBA..most NBA players from the 50s, 60s, early 70s could not play in today's NBA. I think that's reality. Offcourse you have Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain..the top ten or so players from that era but the talent from 1 to 450 is through the roof"
"Kevin Love is better than 99% of the power forwards on that list (referring to top 75 list)"

Edit: more quotes
"I don't want to be that guy in 10 or 20 years from now who is shitting on players in 2044..I recognize the game always evolves. I watch these highlight tapes of kids that are like 12 and their handles are Kyrie's handles and they are hitting step back threes and I'm like the game in 10-20 years will look completely different, the skillsets will look completely different..and guess what..they will be better than we were..that's just reality. That's how the game works..it evolves..it gets better"
[Meirov] Remember when teams were hiring young offensive minded coaches because they wanted the next Sean McVay? Well so far this season... McVay is 6-1, Kliff Kingsbury is 7-0, Matt LaFleur is 6-1, Zac Taylor is 5-2. Brandon Staley, who was McVay’s defensive coordinator, is 4-2.

[Rapoport] How serious does an injury have to be to sideline #AZCardinals DE JJ Watt? Sources say he actual tore his labrum, his bicep, and his rotator cuff — and dislocated his shoulder. Watt was playing some of his best football and helped change the culture for the undefeated AZ team.
The Green Bay Packers are missing their #1, 2, 3 WR, their #1 and #2 CB, and 3 starting offensive linemen.
In other news, water is wet.
as some others point out... also missing #1 and #2 LB (if preston smith cannot play)
so missing as many as 10 starters. JV squad
[Ryen Russillo] Other than Rockets fans/media selfishly defending the Harden BS over the years, I never understood anyone arguing anything other than it being terrible for the sport. It wasn’t something to counter, it was awful to watch. I hope the refs stay the course because it’s long overdue.

Looking for a Grizzlies, Lakers, Kings Pistons, Pelicans, and Wizards Rep for /r/NBA official Power Rankings - APPLY HERE
If you follow one of those teams closely you have an opportunity to be a Rep! Our rankers communicate throughout the ranking periods and try to be as knowledgeable as possible about their rankings. We want someone who would be very interested in this process.
Examples of power rankings can be found here. Before submitting an application as a comment below please read over the below rules and responsibilities of the reps.
Rules & Responsibilities:
- Rankings will take the users as long as the users feel necessary, I imagine an hour might be spent doing this every two weeks. In some cases more, in others less.
- Rank every team in order once every 2 weeks (this will be done on a spreadsheet so you should have some very basic knowledge how to operate one)
- Provide a short paragraph about your team. Keep it two a sentence per game or less. Ideally you would talk about what is happening with the team instead of how they played in a game. The write up should be no more than 400 characters
- Ranks will need to be submitted on Monday before 12 PM EST (noon)
- Missing 2 consecutive voting periods or 3 over the course of the year will remove you from voting.
Application:
-

[Wirth] Steve Kerr: “I’ve long felt that’s one of Steph’s secrets to his success, he loves his life. He loves his family, his hobbies, his daily existence on the Earth, he just enjoys it so much. He’s got so much going for him that it makes everything smoother and more fun for him on the court.”
Warriors coach Steve Kerr joined 95.7 The Game's "Damon & Ratto" on Wednesday, where he discussed Lee's progress on the court and when he believes the fifth-year guard turned the corner in his career.
“I thought he turned the corner last year," Kerr said. "He had some really good games for us a year ago. The season didn’t end well for him, he got COVID late in the year and was not able to play in the two play-in games. He didn’t really have a complete season health-wise, but he really helped us win some games. This was a great summer for him, he got healthy, was able to work on his body. I think he came into camp in the best shape of his life, but also with the most knowledge that he’s ever had and the most confidence."
“He and Sydel, his wife, are having a baby, too," Kerr said. "There’s just a lot of great things going on in Damion’s life. He’s just right at that sweet spot where he’s ready to help (I think) a good team win a lot of games. You saw that last night, and you saw that in all four of these wins that we’ve had to start the year.”
“They are directly related, there’s no question. I’ve long felt that’s one of Steph [Curry’s] secrets to his success, he loves his life. He loves his family, he loves his hobbies, his daily existence on the Earth, he just enjoys it so much. He’s got so much going for him that it makes everything smoother and more fun for him on the court. I think that’s true for everybody. If you can get things in order and you’re in a comfortable place, you’re going to have more success.”
[ESPN] Shaquille O'Neal on motivating his children to be hardworking: “My kids are older now. They kinda upset with me. Not really upset, but they don't understand. I tell them all the time. We ain't rich. I'm rich.”
Shaquille O'Neal on motivating his children to be hardworking: “My kids are older now. They kinda upset with me. Not really upset but they don't understand. I tell them all the time. We ain't rich. I'm rich. You gotta have Bachelors or Masters. If you want me to invest in one of your companies, you're gonna have to present it, bring it to me. I'm not giving you nothing."
[Brandon Noble] Here’s a good one. I get MRSA, might lose a leg, maybe more. WFT doc refuses to treat me (another story) About to roll into operating room, Dan & Coach Gibbs show up. Dressed in tuxedos, post black tie event. Coach asks how I’m doing, Dan asks if I’m gonna sue them.
Udonis Haslem on the Heat bubble run being called a fluke: "Don’t get mad at me because your favorite team and favorite player was a mental midget in the bubble. Trying to fry chicken and have pool parties and shit, we ain’t here for that. Ain’t our fault motherfuckers was soft! why discredit us?"
Full quote:
"When we first walked in the bubble I let my guys know: get comfortable with being uncomfortable. I set the tone for my guys: I slept on the couch. I wanted to be the first one to make myself uncomfortable. I ordered a whole load of Campbell’s Soup and a bunch of snacks that I like, and got a little water bottle and filled it up with a little Hennessy, and had a lil’ Tequila on the side. I tapped into that dark place to go out there and get it done. I didn’t speak to nobody. I only stayed in my room or played cards with Jimmy [Butler]. Even LeBron, as much as I love Bron, I didn’t hang out with Bron one time in the bubble. My guys need to understand what we’re here for. They’re young: they don’t need to see me kickin’ it with Bron, playing cards with Bron. We here for a reason. I want to beat Bron. I don’t need you confused! They don’t understand how I can kick it with somebody and wanna rip they head off.
I ain’t leave my room. I ain’t fraternize with nobody. And for three, four months, it was just about that. What pisses me off, man, is that people discredit what [the Heat] did in the bubble because we didn’t have a great season the very next season. Don’t get mad at me because your favorite team and favorite player was a mental midget in the bubble. Trying to fry chicken and have pool parties and shit, we ain’t here for that. Ain’t our fault motherfuckers was soft!...why discredit us? The Lakers ain’t make the playoffs the next season either and ain’t nobody sayin’ shit about them!...that takes nothing away from what we did the year before. Doesn’t change that Milwaukee swept us last year, we still beat they ass two years ago! It’s still in the record books! They whipped our ass and we whipped their ass."
From the recent GQ interview with Udonis Haslem, would recommend reading the entire article, some good stories and glimpses into the day to day of the team
[Lowe] Jоakim Nоah: "Whеn I found out Dеrrick torе his ACL, I remеmber the smеlls, who I was with, everything. I had the samе feeling of whеn I saw the planе hit the towеr [on Sеpt. 11, 2001]. Pеople will be likе, 'Hе's crazy for saying that.' No. I'm telling you how I fеlt."
Chicago earned the No. 1 seed in 2011-12, boasting the league's fattest point differential and the best offense of the Thibodeau era. But up by 12 late in Game 1 of the first round, Rose tore his left ACL.
The Bulls never regained their standing. There would be no epic rivalry with Miami. "We really believed we were gonna win that championship," Noah says. "That was our time. Derrick represented that much hope. Every time he stepped onto the court, we had the most special player in the world. That's a lot of hope to carry on one person."
Rose, still among Noah's closest friends, was nevеr the samе.
"When I found out Dеrrick tore his ACL, I remеmber the smеlls, who I was with, evеrything," Noah says. "I had the same feеling of when I saw the planе hit the towеr [on Sеpt. 11, 2001]. People will be like, 'Hе's crazy for saying that.' No. I'm tеlling you how I fеlt."
