Interview

Context:

Houston Rockets star Christian Wood became the center of attention earlier this week after he tossed a pass into the stands that drilled a woman as she was walking during a game against the Charlotte Hornets.

When asked about his misguided pass after the game, Wood expressed concern for her well-being. “I hope she’s OK. If she needs tickets to a game, I got her,” he said, per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Speaking with Inside Edition, the woman said she didn’t appreciate that he included a laughing emoji in his response, and considers his entire message to be inappropriate. She has allegedly been advised by her doctor to not return to work for three weeks after inspecting the marks on her face.

In a year where there isn't a clear front runner Offensive Rookie of the Year, why not Creed Humphrey of KC for the award?

I understand that Mac Jones, Jaylen Waddle, Kyle Pitts and Ja'Marr Chase are getting a lot of good stats and it is usually a QB award, but Creed Humphrey has been the best offensive player hands down this year if you look at PFF.

His 92.2 grade is so far ahead of Mac Jones it isn't funny (78.9 for Mac after week 16). If you look at top centers in the league, he's the number 1 center. Not just rookie, but all centers

Micah Parson, who by all accounts is having one of the best years EVER by a rookie, is at 84.8. Which is still almost 8 points behind Humphrey.

I'm using PFF because it is the best I can do to compare across positions, but some traditional stats help him as well. He's played almost every snap of every game at a spot that is important to have consistency. He's had only 5 penalties called against him all year, all holding. Of the 1045 snaps he's played, he's allowed 1 sack. He has been an elite player.

Source

Trae Young: "We got three-fourths of our team out. I came to shootaround today not knowing most of my teammates."

Trae Young on his reaction to seeing the Miami-San Antonio game postponed today while the Hawks continue playing with most of their team out and mostly filled with 10-day hardship exception signings:

"I was just confused. We had like four guys fly in last night just to make the roster and play today. We were able to find a way. I don't know if it's on the league or on our part to complain and be forceful with what's going on. Other teams have gotten games postponed and are waiting on guys to get back. We have, really, three guys who play big minutes for our team, when you include (Skylar Mays), we have four guys. It's kind of crazy."

What were the most devastating "garbage time" injuries?

2 come to mind for me:

  • John Randle (1998): On the final defensive snap of the Vikings' 41-21 divisional playoff win against the Cardinals, Randle's main concern was not letting himself get hurt. So what happens? Teammate Derek Alexander falls into his knee, hyperextending it and rendering it ineffective. A healthy Randle probably means the Vikings win the NFCCG rather easily instead of suffering one of the saddest losses in sports history.

  • Michael Thomas (2020): With the game largely in hand against the Buccaneers, the Saints were still running plays. Michael Thomas was a blocker on this play that resulted in Latavius Murray falling into his ankle, causing a high-ankle sprain and essentially costing him 2 years of his prime.

[Spears] Kings Coach Alvin Gentry on his recovery against COVID: "I had a little bit of a minor sore throat. A 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. I’m walking around and I’m living proof that vaccines work". Gentry, 67, is fully vaccinated and boosted

I had a little bit of a minor sore throat,” Gentry said. “A 1 on a scale of 1 to 10, but I kept waiting. Am I going to wake up tomorrow and am I going to feel terrible? Or am I going to wake up tomorrow and there’s going to be more symptoms? So all of those things right there concern me. Luckily for me, it ended up working out.”

Gentry, who said he only faced mild symptoms, cleared the NBA’s health and safety protocols on Dec. 25. He also told The Undefeated he received a Food and Drug Administration-approved investigational monoclonal antibody injection to help the healing process.

Gentry strongly believes that all Americans should get vaccinated and booster shots. For those who are skeptical, he offers a message that he has given to his own players.

“I’m walking around and I’m living proof that it works,” Gentry said. “I was lucky enough I had no symptoms, no anything. And so I feel fortunate as heck, but I had great people taking care of me and to get a booster shot. And I know what people say, ‘I don’t know what’s in it.’ But we got really smart people doing this.

“It makes sense to have the vaccine and the booster. The thing that I tell all the guys in my situation [with the Kings], in our building, is that everybody in our building have had the vaccine and have had the shots and have had the booster shot. There’s not one single person that have grown an extra ear or extra eye.”

Would you trade advertisments on uniforms for less commercial time?

Trade offers is proportional. Meaning 100% of uniform goes to advertisment space = no commercials at all. 75% advertisment space means 25% of the commercial time of current average.

Edit: I should have included that this would also take average game time down, up to an hour (hypothetically) So 100% advertisement free means average game time goes from 3.5 hours to 2.5. 50% advertisement means average game time of 3 hours.

Edit 2: Its revealing to me how the NFL fanbase is so used to the NFLs greediness and getting beaten over the head with logs of poop, that a significant amount of these comments refuse to engage in this fantasy question. It's just a quick "you know they would do both if they could"? Yes everyone is aware that if the NFL / advertisers could monetize your casket they would.

Official r/NFL Week 16 Power Rankings

Happy Holidays and welcome to the week 16 Official r/NFL Power Rankings! Does building a five possession lead in the first half finally cement the Cowboys in the top tier? How badly will the Saints be penalized for starting Gumbo the dog and a bottle of Joe Horn's hot sauce? What does a fourth win mean for Houston? Discuss! 29/32 reporting.

# Team ฮ” Record Comment
1. Packers -- 12-3 The Packers defense must have been very good this year, because Baker Mayfield sure gave them a lot of presents this Christmas.A 4 INT performance was needed to sow up the win at Lambeau. The offense looked pretty darn good in the first half and capitalized quite nicely on Baker's picks, but slugged along for only 3 points in the second half. It's great to see the defense make a stand in the final moments of the game, but with that large of a turnover differential you'd like to see the Packers be cruising in the 4th. Aaron and Co. must play better in 2nd halves to finish out playoff games. At least the special teams unit looked at least kinda semi-competent, that's a plus.
2. Chiefs -- 11-4 The Chiefs are rolling. The BBQ sauce is flowing. Patrick Mahomes is slinging. The Chiefs continued their winstreak stretching it to 8 games, with this victory against the Steelers clinching the AFC West. This is the sixth straight AFC West win from the Chiefs and Andy Reid, a remarkable feat for a franchise that had never even won the AFC West in back to back years before he came to town. It truly is a golden era of Chiefs football.
3. Buccaneers -- 11-4 For the first time in 14 years, the Buccaneers clinched the NFC South with a lopsided 32-6 victory over Carolina. The Bucs defense was back to generating irritable Bowles movements, notching up 7 sacks (and 19 total hurries) with an additional interception from Jordan Whitehead. Mr. Bogus Covid came back from suspension in roaring fashion with a 10 catch, 100+ yard game. With the Jets (and Panthers) to close out the final two weeks of the season, the one seed (and an MVP for Brady) are still viable outcomes-- that is, if the Bucs stop getting Covid and injuries.
4. Cowboys +1 11-4 There is something special about a game where the margin of victory would have been the highest score of the week. Overall, you have to love where this team is at. On offense, they are #1 in yards (top 5 in rushing and passing) and #1 in points. On defense, they are #7 in points allowed, #3 in passer rating allowed, and lead the league in both INTs and takeaways. If this game was a sign of the offense getting right, rather than a case of beating up on a decimated defense that showed more fight on their expensive, imported heated bench than on the field, Dallas is probably the scariest team in the league.
5. Rams -1 11-4 Despite Stafford rearing his ugly head with three picks, defensive and special teams play kept the Rams one step ahead all day long. This was a game that would have been lost in November+, but the December Rams seem a bit tougher and are able to win through adversity. The Rams were a perfect 4-0 in December and now possess a clinched playoff spot and controlled destiny of the NFC West.
6. Colts +2 9-6 The best medicine for an unvaccinated team's playoff chances is good coaching. The Colts were missing four offensive linemen and defensive superstar Darius Leonard due to COVID last Saturday in a matchup against the Cardinals. Jonathan Taylor was consistently stuffed throughout, and Wentz was pressured nearly early play. However, the team didn't quit. The defense, despite missing several key players and relying on practice squad personnel, held Kyler Murray's offense to a mere sixteen points. Carson Wentz stepped up big time and made extremely clutch plays down the stretch, including the spectacular game-sealing touchdown pass to Dezmon Patmon. While the Cardinals killed themselves with plenty of mistakes, Frank Reich and Matt Eberflus successfully led a COVID-ravaged team to win an all-important game that has all but secured them a spot in the postseason. With a win against the Raiders next week, the team will officially clinch a playoff berth. And when they get there, who knows what they can do. They may be the hottest team in football right now.
7. Bills +2 9-6 Bill Belichick asked Santa for another hurricane-force windstorm; unfortunately for him, Patriots go straight to the naughty list. Now, Buffalo controls their own destiny. If the Bills beat up on Atlanta and New Jersey, they win the division. Even if they somehow let one slip, they’re still likely a playoff team. In actual decent weather, Josh Allen balled out, with possibly his best performance of the year. He had 314 passing yards, 3 TDs, and another 64 yards on the ground —and now he's vaulted himself back into the MVP conversation. And yeah, sure, that’s all great, but imagine what this team would look like with a pro bowl QB?
8. Patriots -2 9-6 Nothing seemed to click all at the same time for the Patriots. When the defense seemed the show signs of fight, the offense faltered. When the offense started moving the ball, the defense couldn't stop a nose bleed. A disappointing fall from graces for the Patriots who now find themselves in the position of just trying to make the playoffs with the division almost guaranteed to go to the Bills.
9. Cardinals -3 10-5 What is even the point anymore? Arizona sports is preordained. The cycle goes: suck for at least 10+ years, obtain a talent that becomes the catalyst for a “culture change”, get a bunch of lucky breaks in order to get as close as possible to being successful, and then crash and burn at the perfect time to eviscerate the trust of fans. I feel like a broken record but everybody needs to do better. On the brighter side of things, the team does seem to play better on the road… and not in primetime. Sure hope there aren’t any of those games in the playoffs…
10. Titans +1 10-5 The Titans looked outmatched against a surging 49ers team that had won 5 out of 6 games and jumped out to a 10-0 lead over the Titans at the half. But with the return of AJ Brown off of IR, the Titans were able to pull together a 2nd half rally to beat the 49ers 20-17. The Titans control their path to the #2 seed if they win against the Dolphins and Texans in the last two weeks of the year and can get to the #1 seed if that happens with a Chiefs loss.
11. Bengals +2 9-6 If the Bengals win out and the Chiefs also drop their final game at Denver they can be the #1 seed in the conference. On the other hand if they lose against the Chiefs and a finally healthy-ish Browns team, they are in danger of missing the playoffs all together. It will be a stressfull two weeks for Bengals fans.
12. 49ers -- 8-7 It was a tale of 2 halves. Before the break, 49ers were dominant, holding the Titans to 55 yards of offense and taking a 10-0 lead. The second half the offense could not get out of its own way, with 2 backbreaking interceptions and the defense was dismantled by AJ Brown. The injury Jimmy G sustained during the loss most likely means these crucial games down the stretch will be handled by Trey Lance. There is a possibility Thursday was the last night Jimmy G will be under center for the 49ers.
13. Chargers -3 8-7 Easily the worst game of the season. In all honesty, credit to the Texans. That team decided to execute no matter what was thrown at them, and the Chargers are once again getting in their own way. Justin Jackson had his best career game as the starting RB, but the stars all played for Houston. Safety Jonathan Owens got his first career interception and fumble recovery, accounting for two of the Chargers' three turnovers. Owens' girlfriend clearly seemed to have a good time. This Chargers team was pushing for the division lead a few weeks ago. As of now, they're on the playoff bubble and they cannot afford any setbacks. Denver comes to town next week.
14. Ravens -- 8-7 Wow, we got demolished. Third string QB and the backup to the backup secondary... well, the season's been entertaining. There's a chance, but it requires beating down the Rams and the Steelers and other teams to mess up. Here's hoping to a healthy 2022 or a miracle 2021.
15. Dolphins +3 8-7 It was a balmy 451° F in New Orleans, as librarians everywhere are up in arms in protest of the public Book abuse the Dolphins perpetrated Monday night. Meanwhile, as the Dolphins had the ball, cold weather must have been rolling in as ๐Ÿง๐Ÿง๐Ÿง sightings were seen once again.
16. Eagles +5 8-7 If the Eagles make the playoffs after a miserable 2-5 start to the season, they will become only the 9th squad in NFL history to accomplish such a feat. The final two games of the season come against NFC East opponents, so only the Chaos Gods know what might happen next.
17. Raiders +3 8-7 The Raiders are one game away from having only their second winning season since 2002. They also are in control of their own playoff destiny, if they win their last two games they will make the playoffs. It all starts with a strong Colts team that matches up very well again a struggling Raiders team.
18. Browns -1 7-8 Yes, it was pass interference and it's complete BS the Browns did not get a flag. That said Baker also threw three other picks and a few others that were close. This season is a rough one. The Browns will take on the Steelers next Monday in what could be a game that wraps up the AFC North division fight.
19. Vikings -3 7-8 The Vikings' defense held Stafford to his lowest single-game passing grade since his 2009 rookie season, but the Vikings were just unable to capitalize on any opportunities, losing yet another one-score game — this one likely costing the team a playoff berth.
20. Steelers -5 7-7-1 Steelers C Kendrick Green decided that Christmas should come twice in Kansas City by giving them the gift of pressure on Big Ben during every play. He has struggled all year, but Sunday's game was on another level for him. The ball cannot be run anywhere near where he's playing and he's easier to get through than an open gate. Pittsburgh had absolutely no chance. There's a lot wrong with this team right now, but it all really begins in the middle of the O-line.
21. Saints -2 7-8 Ian Book took the most punishment, but we all suffered having to watch that Saints offense on MNF.
22. Broncos -- 7-8 Losing a game with +3 TO margin is not good! Rushing for 18 yards in a game, third lowest in team history, also not good! Folks, the Broncos are...not good!
23. Falcons +2 7-8 Another Detroit/Atlanta down to the wire, but at least this game ended on something more convincing than a penalty flag and a ten second run off. From Koo's ice cold 52 yard field goal to tie, to Patterson's 11th touchdown, the win was a team effort. The Falcons need to beat the Bills next week before any hypotheticals are worth mentioning.
24. Washington FT -1 6-9 Yes, The Washington Football Team was blown out 56-14 for their third straight division loss but at least the benches were warm. Even in their losses, this WFT roster led by Ron Rivera has shown up to play, stuck around late in games and haven’t quit. Todays performance however was a regression that more closely resembled some of the lowest lows of the Zorn and Gruden eras. This was a classic “Redskins” rock bottom cratering prime time embarrassment. The 4 game winning streak that had them briefly in playoff contention feels like it was ages ago and now we’re back to wondering who the next QB and staff may be going forward because there is zero confidence with the current product. Not that it will ever matter given who owns the team, I mean, who are we kidding getting hopeful anytime they over-achieve for a few weeks?
25. Bears +1 5-10
26. Seahawks -2 5-10 The Seahawks nightmare season continues, as they allowed Nick Foles and the Bears to come into Seattle and win on a 2 point conversion. Jason Myers's shaky kicking could've gotten us a win, but make no mistake; this team is bad. Russell Wilson had another subpar game, overthrowing/missing open guys and making some questionable decisions. Rashaad penny was a bright spot, running for 135 and a touchdown. This team is incredibly frustrating and should see a shakeup this offseason.
27. Panthers -- 5-10 We have a meme now on the Panthers subreddit where, every time we lose a game, Matt Rhule’s forehead grows. It’s kinda like the Grinch but I’m pretty sure that the fella who stole Christmas in Whoville knows more about football than Matt Rhule. Anyways, [is Matt Rhule fired yet?](www.ismattrhulefiredyet.com)
28. Lions -- 2-12-1 Goff would have won this game. That’s a good feeling to have about Goff whether you’re a lover or a hater. Tim Boyer was not awful, but the defense and special teams kept the Lions in the game. This is not the same as earlier in the season where the offense was blatantly losing games, the offense has evolved all around from the early season. However, with Swift and Reynolds out, the offense had to revert back to those power runs and short/mid field runs only. The rookies are still developing, and there is a lot to be excited about in the future of the Pride.
29. Texans +2 4-11 From a strategic standpoint, these recent wins are probably against the Texans' best interests. But fuck that nerd shit, winning is fun and good. Hopefully Mills and the other rookies continue to develop, but just from a morale standpoint winning brings the team together. Maybe there's hope for this squad after all.
30. Giants -1 4-11 Different week, same old story. While few teams can insert a backup QB and not miss a beat, the Giants offense has become so painful to watch as a unit that it's become more enjoyable to just see what happens when the other team has the ball. Big Blue is paying the price for a slew of incompetent decisions by the Front Office, and while Mr. Gettleman looks to be on his way out, the head of the snake will remain uncut for the forseeable future.
31. Jets -1 4-11 Zach Wilson continues to make progress as the season goes on. Since his injury he has 7 total touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also posted a career best PFF grade, QBR, and adjusted completion percentage. Wilson lead his team to a win despite 20 Jets players being on the covid list, and that's on top of the having the leagues most injured roster. The loss of draft position may sting in April, but it was nice to see the kid play well.
32. Jaguars -- 2-13 The hapless Jaguars did Jaguars things again. Unsurprisingly, they notched another mark in their loss column, and moved one step closer to the offseason. Just a few more short weeks, and the Jaguars will very likely, once again, be on the clock.

Week 16 Wagers Thread

As mods we don't have any recourse in dealing with people who don't own up to bets (our simple suggestion is be a man/woman of your word or stay out of the thread) but this doesn't make witchhunting and gang mentality okay. Please refrain from such things. Do call out users in these threads, but not every time they post. Thanks.

  • pay up bets from previous weeks
  • set new wagers for Week 16.
  • call out those that haven't paid up yet.

Kevin Love is having an underrated good season

Kevin love though 25 game: 12.8/7.4/2 shooting splits 43.6/41.2/94.3 (league leading ft% on 2.8 attempts per game). He turns the ball over less than he ever has (1.1 tov per game), but this is slightly misleading because he also plays less minutes than he ever has before.

He has the best TS% and EFG% he's ever had. 62% TS, 55.9% EFG respectivly.

The highest WS/48 of his career (.249)

Cleveland is having a very good season (20-13, 5th in the east), and a lot of credit, fairly, goes to Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, but Kevin Love is certainly having an impact, he also, from my limited time of watching, seems way more locked in than in previous years.

Cleveland fans what do you think of Love's play this season?

The Spurs (14-18) are but one game back from the Lakers (16-18). Their aspirations for this season was to break 26 wins. The Lakers had the 2nd highest Vegas odds to win the NBA championship, after the Nets.

Spurs goal this season was to get Pop the record so he can retire with it. It was highly questionable if they could do it.

They are now at the 10th seed, just 1 game back from the 7th seed Lakers, and riding a 3 game win streak with +87 differential in it, including +28 on said Lakers.

They are also the only the team of all western teams on seeds 6-15 to have a positive point differential, +2.0; Nuggets at 6th have -0.3; Lakers are -2.3

[Kareem Abdul-Jabbar] While LeBron James is a necessary and dynamic voice critical of police brutality against the Black community, he needs to be the same necessary and dynamic advocate with vaccines, which could save thousands of Black lives right now.

Source

LeBron James is not only one of the greatest basketball players ever, he’s committed to being a leader in the African American community in the fight against inequality. But his Thursday Instagram meme showing three cartoon Spider-Men pointing at each other—one labeled “covid,” one labeled “flu,” one labeled “cold”—with his message: “Help me out folks” was a blow to his worthy legacy. The meme’s implication is that LeBron doesn’t understand the difference among these three illnesses, even after all the information that’s been presented in the press. Well, since he asked, let me help him out by explaining the difference—and how knowing that difference might save lives, especially in the Black community.

First, let’s put his meme in context. In September, LeBron stated: “I don’t talk about other people and what they should do. We’re talking about individual bodies. We’re not talking about something political or racism or police brutality. I don’t think I personally should get involved in what other people do for their bodies and livelihoods ... I know what I did for me and my family ... But as far as speaking for everybody and their individualities and things they want to do, that’s not my job.”

Here’s the first problem with that statement: With 106 million Instagram followers, making such a post is automatically politically impactful because he questions the validity of the efforts to get the country vaccinated. As is evident by some of the comments that cheer LeBron’s post, he’s given support to those not getting vaccinated, which makes the situation for all of worse by postponing our health and economic recovery. The CDC reports that those who are unvaccinated are 9 times more likely to be admitted to the hospital and 14 times more likely to die from COVID than those vaccinated. The number rises to 20 time more likely when compared to someone who’s gotten a booster shot. By posting the uninformed meme, LeBron has encouraged vaccine hesitancy which puts lives and livelihoods at risk.

Here’s the second problem with that statement: He says we’re not talking about racism, but we most definitely are. As of December 2020, about 97.9 out of every 100,000 African Americans had died from COVID-19, a third higher than that for Latinos (64.7 per 100,000), and more than double than that for whites (46.6 per 100,000) and Asians (40.4 per 100,000). According to an article on the U.S. National Library of Medicine site, “The overrepresentation of African Americans among confirmed COVID-19 cases and number of deaths underscores the fact that the coronavirus pandemic, far from being an equalizer, is amplifying or even worsening existing social inequalities tied to race, class, and access to the health care system.”

A year later, the communities of People of Color are still suffering at a much higher rate than white communities. In November 2021, the CDC stated, “It has highlighted that health equity is still not a reality as COVID-19 has unequally affected many racial and ethnic minority groups, putting them more at risk of getting sick and dying from COVID-19.” One study in Atlanta showed 79% of Blacks with COVID-19 were hospitalized versus 13% of whites. COVID-19 has resulted in a drop in life expectancy among whites of 1.2 years. Among the Black and Latinx communities it was more than 3 years.

For those confident that the Omicron variant may not be as harsh as previous variants, it’s important to realize that, while most might come out of it okay, they can still unwittingly infect others along the way—the elderly, people with compromised immune systems, people with respiratory problems—who could end up hospitalized or dead. Also, almost half of those who recover from initial COVID-19 illness have “long-haul COVID,” with persistent symptoms of brain fog, shortness of breath, fatigue, dizziness, and headaches.

For those pointing out that there are “breakthrough” cases in which the vaccinated contract COVID-19. Yes, but they also have lighter symptoms and are at a much less risk of dying than the unvaccinated. The crucial statistic here is this: 98-99% of Americans dying of COVID-19 are unvaccinated.

Vaccine hesitancy is higher in the Black community than in any other. While there are certainly justifiable historical reasons for Blacks to be skeptical of the health care system that has routinely marginalized, ignored, and even illegally experimented on them, that is not enough to justify compromising their health and even losing their lives during the current health crisis.

To directly address LeBron’s confusion, no one thinks colds and the flu aren’t serious. In the 2019-2020 flu season, 400,000 people were hospitalized and 22,000 people died. In 2020, 385,428 people died of COVID-19, while so far in 2021, 423,558 have died in the U.S., for a total of 808,986 deaths. Experts agree that COVID-19 is at least 10 times more lethal than the flu. As for the common cold, death is extremely rare.

However, LeBron, if you’re concerned about the flu, then help promote the flu vaccination. In the 2019-2020 flu season, only 51.8% in the U.S. were vaccinated, well below the 70% that is the target. Worse, the vaccination rate is 20% lower among Blacks than whites and as a result they have the highest hospitalization rate due to flu of any other group. This is due to vaccination hesitancy that your meme promotes.

One way to help the Black community to overcome their hesitancy and save lives is for prominent Black celebrities and influencers to continue to encourage everyone to get vaccinated and their boosters. Immunization, whether from vaccines or having had the disease, lessens over time and makes people vulnerable for reinfection.

While LeBron is a necessary and dynamic voice critical of police brutality against the Black community, he needs to be the same necessary and dynamic advocate with vaccines, which could save thousands of Black lives right now. The racism is just as real—and just as lethal—in both cases.

[AlBaroudi] Gilbert Arenas spent his entire rookie salary ($845,000) before the draft, leaving him with a $500 weekly budget for the entire 2001-02 season. Arenas' financial situation became so dire he had to sleep at the Warriors' arena because he couldn't afford the gas to drive back-and-forth.

Source

Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas made an estimated $163.4 million in salary over his 13-year career, but he certainly didn't live like a multimillionaire as a rookie. The three-time All-NBA selection told VLAD TV he spent his entire rookie salary ($845,000) before the draft, leaving him with a $500 weekly budget for the entire 2001-02 season.

To make matters worse, Arenas had to manage that $500 budget in the ultra-expensive Bay Area, as the Golden State Warriors drafted him 31st overall out of Arizona. Arenas said he spent his entire rookie salary – he cites a chain plus a souped-up Escalade with five TVs and a suede roof as his most notable expenses – because he thought he'd be a top-10 draft pick.

Arenas' financial situation became so dire he had to sleep at the Warriors' arena because he couldn't afford the gas to drive back-and-forth, far from the glamorous NBA lifestyle he expected.

"You've been playing and training your whole life to be here, and when you get here it's a rude awakening," Arenas said. "You're not even close to what is expected. You're not good enough. You're on a two-year deal, I have no money. It wasn't fun. I even said then, 'I wish I could come back to college. I took a pay cut coming here.'"

While Arenas struggled through his first 30 games and became "depressed," he finished the season strong thanks in part to his overnight stays at the arena. Arenas – who averaged 10.9 points, 1.5 steals and 3.7 assists as a rookie — said the extra time at the gym helped him become a "professional."

"The beginning of the season, I wasn't good enough to be put on that floor," Arenas said. "So, that anger and drive and just sitting in the gym for hours and hours and watching film is what got me going."

Arenas eventually made over $160 million as an NBA player, making Agent Zero more like Agent Zeroes.

[Wojnarowski] Privately, several team executives and team health officials believed not testing everyone was financially motivated. Other teams privately argue that not all teams have followed the protocols as strictly as others, or that not all teams test as often as others.

Privately, several team executives and team health officials believed not testing everyone was financially motivated, though league officials have disputed this characterization to ESPN. For now, when a team has a positive case, that team is encouraged -- but not required -- to test all players and potentially impacted staff to see how far the virus has spread; the same is recommended when a team faces another team that has detected a positive test.

So far, mandated daily testing has remained off the table.

Other teams privately argue that not all teams have followed the protocols as strictly as others, or that not all teams test as often as others. Another GM said that if all teams were united heading into the Orlando bubble last year, the dynamics have now changed: Every team is out for themselves, trying to save their own seasons, fielding subpar ghost teams.

Amid the surge, a number of team executives started to believe -- and have voiced as much to the league -- that asymptomatic players should be able to play. But, at the highest corners of the NBA and NBPA, that possibility is, for now, a non-starter, league sources said.

Official r/NFL Week 15 Power Rankings

Welcome to the week 15 Official r/NFL Power Rankings! With an easy win over the Cardinals, did Detroit luck out or does Goff see red every time he...sees red? Did the Packers earn a close win, or like the Rams/Seahawks, did the refs tarnish yet another outcome? Discuss! 31/32 reporting.

# Team ฮ” Record Comment
1. Packers +1 11-3 The Packers seem to always let mobile QB's run wild, but Tyler Huntley couldn't quite materialize a comeback this week, and Green Bay squeaked by with a win. Darnell Savage got dunked on by Mark Andrews all game except on the decisive 2pt conversion, which is all that matters I guess. To be honest I was kinda hoping the Ravens scored that because I was terrified our special teams would mess up and let Baltimore recover the onside kick and then have Justin Tucker strut all over us. Don't let the hands team fool you: our special teams is still garbage, just slightly less garbage than I dreaded.
2. Chiefs +3 10-4 A gutsy win to secure the 1 seed in the AFC in week 14 was not how the Chiefs season seemed to be going as they sit at 3-4 a few months ago. However, here we are. The defense deserves a lot of credit for the turnaround going from a historically bad defense to a legitimate top 10 defense in the NFL. Happy feelings are only fleeting in a world with Covid though, as now the Chiefs have a Covid outbreak. Who knows if this will derail their attempts for the 1 seed, but I wouldn't bet out a team that has already overcome a lot of adversity already.
3. Buccaneers -2 10-4 Bruce Arians can't seem to figure out the New Orleans Saints (in the regular season, at least). In his three seasons with the Bucs, they've gone a poor 0-6 against them in the regular season. Sunday's 9-0 shutout was yet another example of Arians playing Checkers against Dennis Allen's game of Chess. The Buccaneers' offensive line forgot how to block, the receivers forgot how to catch, and despite the absence of Head Coach Kevin James, the Buccaneers still got shut out. The NFC one seed is still in reach, but the Bucs will need a perfect finish to the season to keep that dream alive.
4. Rams +2 10-4 Despite a chaotic covid week where McVay didn’t even know if he would even field a full roster, the Rams came out, still short handed, and gave Seattle their first losing season in 10 years. This signals a more concrete look into the end of an era for Sea…hawks fans with Carroll and Wilson’s future unknown. Elsewhere, the Stafford-to-Kupp magic continues as Kupp is on pace for a historic season, even without an extra game. P.S. Thanks Jared
5. Cowboys +2 10-4 Dallas played a flawed game and got an ugly but convincing win, which is better than most of the top teams this week. This was the third straight game with 4 turnovers forced by the defense, the running game looked like its getting right, and we even had time to attempt a fat guy TD play on offense (which didn't work, because guards run shitty routes). After a disappointing November, the Cowboys are as closed to clinching the division as humanly possible without actually doing it (the Eagles have a <0.1% chance, per 538), and have a realistic shot at the 1 seed if the Packers shit their pants even a little.
6. Cardinals -3 10-4 What an absolute trainwreck. It is honestly disgusting the amount of strife this organization puts on its fans. I have no respect for anybody on our offensive or defensive line except Markus Golden and Rodney Hudson. Minus those two, the rest need to be replaced. It is sickening to watch the body language of Kyler Murray and AJ Green when things don’t go their way. Like two children who are in the process of losing at kickball and have no way to fix it. This team needs to shape up, right now. The Cardinals are no longer allowed to act like they’re hot stuff, as they have done NOTHING worthwhile yet. They are in the doghouse with the fanbase. That said, they are 10-4, have a chance at the #1 seed, and I still love them. Go Cardinals.
7. Patriots -2 9-5 Shoot yourself in the foot and you’re going to have a hard time standing. Shoot yourself in both feet and you’re going to have a hard time walking. Shoot yourself in both feet and the dick and you’re going to have a hard time winning a football game. Mistakes and uncharacteristic errors cost the Patriots their game against the Colts. Mac showed promise mounting a comeback in the 4th quarter but it was too little, too late. Bill needs to get these issues ironed out if the team hopes to make a deep playoff run as they now face a rematch with Buffalo.
8. Colts +2 8-6 Earlier in the season following the loss to the Ravens, I had called for defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus to be fired. In retrospect, that was an extremely short-sighted statement. The defense has settled into an imposing unit that leads the league in takeaways and is currently ninth in Points Allowed. Indeed, they smothered the Patriots throughout the game, shutting them out for three quarters and coming up clutch in the fourth to prevent a comeback. The team is also now third in Points Scored after Jonathan Taylor's game-sealing 67-yard touchdown run that will surely be projected onto your television screen when he wins the MVP award. While Carson Wentz did not have a good game, completing only five passes and throwing an interception, he wasn't asked to do much and the Patriots also have the league's best pass defense. Considering his solid play throughout the year, this performance seems more like an outlier than anything. It's also indicative of the team's capabilities when their quarterback has a rough game and they still beat one of the league's best teams by two scores. If the Colts can win on Christmas against the Cardinals, their playoff chances jump up to 98%. Good luck and good hunting.
9. Bills +1 8-6 In a continued domination of middling-to-bad teams, Panthers North got the win they needed vs. the actual Panthers. The defensive line got after the QB better than it has at any other point this season, notching four sacks —two coming in the same set of downs from former Panther Efe Obada. On offense, Josh Allen wasn’t asked to do too much on his sprained foot (other than this absolute hose to Gabriel Davis), and the running game was more efficient than it’s been through most of the season. The red zone offense also took steps in the right direction again, capitalizing on most of their opportunities. In typical Bills fashion it wasn’t always pretty, but it was comfortable and much needed. This next game against New England will be huge, and likely for the AFC East crown.
10. Chargers -1 8-6 Hell of a game. There's certainly been a lot of debate among national (and internet) pundits who question Brandon Staley's 4th down aggressiveness since it failed to produce results in this contest, but the team is likely not in playoff position as it stands without that kind of aggressiveness that the Chargers have been doing all season. Against a good team like Kansas City, it isn't the craziest thought to gamble inside the 5 for a chance at a touchdown instead of an easy field goal. Donald Parham appears to be okay though, and that's a victory that we can all be happy for. Next up, the team heads to Houston.
11. Titans -3 9-6 The Titans were once again hampered by an ailing roster and turnover issues in their 19-13 loss against the Steelers Sunday. The Titans control their path to the AFC South title by needed 2 out of the last 3 games to secure the AFC South without any help.
12. 49ers +1 8-6 The defense was dominant in this one, controlling the game and causing the Falcons to turn over on downs 3 times inside the 10 yard line. The offense moved efficiently, with Jimmy G completing 18/23, and the run game averaging over 5 yards per carry. The has a quick turnaround this week with a TNF meetup in Tennessee.
13. Bengals +1 8-6 The Bengals made enough plays to sneak by the Broncos and thanks to a last second Raiders FG and a missed Ravens two point conversion, the Bengals are in first place in the division. Current standings hardly matter as the Bengals still have games against the Ravens and Browns to close out the season. Win both and the division is likely theirs.
14. Ravens -2 8-6 This is probably the most confident team on a three game skid you can imagine, given they had two major comebacks in two games on the back of Tyler Huntley. Another failed two point conversion to win it, but given the state of the secondary and the team rallying behind the call, it was still the best decision that could be made given a close call with Mark Andrews. This team has a lot of work to do to make the playoffs, but hanging tough with the Packers with your backup QB is a good sign moving forward. Sit Lamar until he's 100% and play Huntley until then, honestly, because Huntley has been fucking good.
15. Steelers +3 7-6-1 As Big Ben moved to 5th all-time in passing yards, his Steelers topped their old rivals the Titans in what was a pretty ugly game replete with officiating that left both fanbases scratching their collective heads. Tennessee escapes bruised, but in cruise control for the playoffs with a very winnable schedule from here on out. Like many AFC teams, the Steelers control their own destiny, but unlike the Titans, their remaining 3 with KC, CLE, and BAL are all very tough games. The Chiefs must win - their final schedule is brutal and they have to get to 11 wins like the Titans must as well, while Pittsburgh needs to get to 10. Pittsburgh didn't play well enough vs the Titans and they will be facing a Chiefs team with no margin for error, either. These Steelers need to learn from last week's game and bring more energy and momentum into Kansas City.
16. Vikings -- 7-7 Against a depleted Bears' secondary, Kirk Cousins averaged just 2.2 net yards per attempt. Yet for the second week in a row, Zimmer's defense managed to bail out poor quarterback play by holding the Bears to 2/12 on third downs and just total three points despite four red zone trips until the final garbage time drive.
17. Browns -2 7-7 Rarely is a team in a position where a win will put them first in the division, a loss last.Half the team out? Yeah that is a problem. Even with a end of game interception the Browns failed to stop the Raiders. The Browns will need to win the final two games of the year AND have division rivals more or less lose out or tie to even sneak into the playoffs. It's not looking good. The Browns will (checks schedule) play Green Bay at home on Christmas. Oh lord.
18. Dolphins +1 7-7 Duke Johnson put 2 rushing TDs and 100+ yards on the field for the first time since he was playing for the U in the Rock against North Carolina in 2014. And his return to Miami was inspiring, as Tua Truckdaboiova follows his lead to the pain of Michael Carter. And the last time anyone saw a worm this big, people had to worry about some Tremors, so be careful down in Miami.
19. Saints +3 7-7 In a week of COVID-19, it was a good time to be Ceedy Duce and a bad time to be a <insert corporate sponsor product>. He and Marshon Lattimore are anchoring a very good defensive unit, and his troll antics are entertaining. But he also has a cool story: https://youtu.be/kQrzn2JZM_g
20. Raiders +3 7-7 The Raiders continue to torture their fan base by giving them hope. With most of the AFC being within one game of .500 the Raiders have a chance to sneak their way into the playoffs. They won't, but technically the chance is still there.
21. Eagles -- 7-7 What's eating Gilbert, Garrett? The Eagles defensive line.
22. Broncos -5 7-7 The Broncos' season ends as the season has ended for years and years now — an offense unable to drive or score making a situation where if the defense blinks once they die. Bridgewater's second concussion this year likely ends his tenure as Broncos QB, inserting the human turnover machine back into the starting lineup. Peyton Manning and a consortium of Denver billionaires, our country turns its lonely eye to you.
23. Washington FT -3 6-8 Washington’s playoff hopes took a huge hit after consecutive NFC EAST losses. Down to a fourth string QB with both Heinicke and Allen out via COVID protocol, the writing was on the wall with this one. WFT will get a chance at redemption with rematches against both Dallas and Philly followed by The Giants to end the season. If they can string together 3 more wins and claw their way to 9-8 they stand a very good chance to snatch that final wildcard. Make no mistake though, every game here on out is an elimination game.
24. Seahawks -- 5-9 Despite losing Jamal Adams for the season and missing DJ Reed, the Seahawks defense held their own against the Rams. The pass rush sacked Stafford a season-high 4 times (3 for Carlos Dunlap) and Quandre got to pick off his former teammate (again). Jordyn Broooks also had one of his more promising games. The offense, however, was pitiful. While the reffing was a huge story from the game last night, the Seahawks did themselves 0 favors on offense and really did not deserve to win the game. Russell Wilson played one of his worst professional games, completing 17 of 31 passes for a whopping 156 yards, an interception, and a PFF grade of 33.6 (lowest on entire offense). It would have been nice to have Tyler Lockett, but DK was getting open throughout the game only to be missed by Russ. Hopefully playing Chicago this week alleviates some pain.
25. Falcons -- 6-8 Looks like Kyle Shanahan finally learned to run with a lead. It didn't matter, quarterbacks don't win games when they're pressured on 27 of 35 drop backs. From jumping back in the first round to grab a second lineman to hiring an ex lineman coach, it seems the harder Atlanta tries the worse they get. Not Terrell though, his full season stats look like one bad game. 23 catches for 150 yards through 14 games. All pro.
26. Bears +1 4-10 During this game, new tackle Tevin Jenkins stood up for his quarterback after a borderline late hit - marking maybe the first time someone has actually helped Fields out all season. He then got sucker punched by a Viking. Veteran Germain Ifedi then got in Jenkins face. From top to bottom the entire culture if this insipid team is dumb.
27. Panthers -1 5-9 I had planned on writing a big spiel about Rhule being visited from the Ghosts of Christmas Past (Cam), Present (Sam Darnold), and Christmas Yet to Come (potential drafted QB), but honestly it's not even worth the effort. Rhule's tenure has been an absolute disgrace, coming to a head with him publicly throwing Cam under the bus, and wondering if Sam Darnold is a better offensive option. Apparently Bills players called this game #OperationSendRhuleBacktoSchool. I'm done with Rhule, the fans are done with Rhule, and the players are done with Rhule. Just end this clown show already.
28. Lions +2 2-11-1 60 minutes of complete football, and domination by the Lions. After taking the lead early, the Lions kept the pressure on. When the Igwebuike fumbled the ball, an Oruwariye interception set up a short TD for Goff and Cabinda. That string of plays may have sealed the game entirely, because the Cardinals were never able to recover. The Lions are 2-3-1 in their last 6, and really showing what that hard work has been toward. The wins are going to do more for the young roster than the draft pick will, but the Lions will still most likely be picking 1st/2nd. Enjoy the win Detroit, don't ruin this week by stressing over the draft. Our draft picks this year have largely worked out and produced for the team, believe in Holmes to find talent next year.
29. Giants -1 4-10 Expect disappointment, and you'll never be disappointed. Giants fans had nothing else to expect when a Mike Glennon-led offense took the field on Sunday. After throwing 3 interceptions, the bad giraffe man was benched in favor of Jake Fromm State Farm, who promptly looked far better the man he was replacing. Now, that was the smallest of small sample sizes, but Fromm will likely have his shot to prove himself this weekend against the Eagles. Giants fans getting hyped for a third-string QB... it's all we got at this point.
30. Jets -1 3-11 This week you can look at the players on offense around Zach Wilson and say that the loss was more on them than him. Wilson wasn't great or anything, he put up a pretty typical rookie performance. But between really poor offensive line play by a bunch of back ups, and no Corey Davis or Elijah Moore, Wilson was put in a pretty impossible situation. Knowing the Jets, they'll beat Jacksonville next week because it's probably in their best interest to lose.
31. Texans +1 3-11 While this is a year we're meant to tank, it's a huge morale boost to at least be better than the Jags. This won't be the worst season in Texans history, which is at least some cold comfort for fans. Another positive is that Mills looked like a better QB than Lawrence on the field, which is gives the team at least something to work with.
32. Jaguars -1 2-12 Incredible! The science has finally been done. Our experts finally found the time, resources, and methods to put together the ultimate test. After years of speculation and wondering, we now know what happens when you pit a movable force against a stoppable object! It turns out, one of those is even more falible than you'd ever imagine dear reader. However, I'm not sure which it was, but the punchline is the Jaguars.

Welcome to Whose Line is it Anyway Wednesday-- Week 16 Edition!

Welcome to Whose Line is it Anyway Wednesday-- Week 16 Edition!

I am your host /u/Coffee_Pyramid and welcome to Whose Line is it Anyway? where all the questions are made up and the points don't matter.

Most of you know what to do, post quips and little statements related to NFL happenings, not in question form, and have people improvise a response to it.

Please be witty, none of us want an inbox full of unfunny stuff.

Suns Coach Monty Williams and DeAndre Ayton say Chris Paul has been vocal about regarding following COVID protocols and has implored them all to remain focused on what they could control. Suns have not lost any players to protocols during regular season so far

It’s remarkable that the Suns have yet to be impacted by the virus this season. And while it certainly seems as if their good practices are playing a part, they’re the first to admit that sheer luck is ruling the day too.

Yet as Suns coach Monty Willilams detailed before the game, it certainly helps to have a veteran voice and former players’ union president like Paul on hand in troubling times like these.

After a film session last week, Paul and Williams addressed the team to discuss the COVID concerns and all the measures they could take to ensure the best odds of keeping their team whole.

“Let’s just do our part so that we can keep business moving in a good direction, to keep it going,” Williams said of the message. “(Paul’s portion) was a really short but profound talk that we needed to have. I shared an experience, a personal experience, that I’ve been through because of the situation, and then we just kind of left it at that. …We want to do what we can to keep the business going but also keep our families safe and do our part. It doesn’t seem like the virus is going anywhere, so we might as well do what we can to keep each other safe.”

When I circled back with Williams after the game to learn more about the specifics of his message, he shared the fact that Suns players have been encouraged to have people in their circles tested as a way of adding another layer of protection.

“I just told them (that) you’re gonna have family members coming back to town (during the holidays), so the safest thing to do is get them tested when they come into town,” he added. “Keep them safe and keep us safe. People are struggling, man, you know? The numbers are back up again. Folks are dying. Again. For us to complain about playing basketball or anything within what we do is just kind of silly, and we don’t want that to be our story. We want hooping and our culture to be our story.”

As Ayton remembers it, Paul implored them all to remain focused on what they could control.

“(He was) just mainly…preparing (them for) what the league’s got for us coming (regarding COVID),” Ayton said. “Whatever decision they make, don’t be blown away by it, you know? It’s a decision they have to make, and you know, just finish playing until they say stop basically. You know, ain’t nothing changing. We’re still coming in, working out, just not doing all the extra-curricular, you know, just going out and stuff like that, just staying in and just making sure we follow protocol and keep our team going and winning.”

The Lakers are now 16-16. No NBA champion has been .500 or worse more than 20 games into a season.

LeBron after the Lakers loss to the Suns - "Obviously, they are at full strength and we're not, so it's hard to see where we're at as a team."

He can continue to make excuses but I don't see the Lakers making any waves in the playoffs this season.

The Minnesota Vikings are currently leading the NFL in sacks (44), despite the fact that no single player on the team has more than 6 sacks.

DJ Wonnum & Danielle Hunter are tied for the team lead with 6 sacks each, while Eric Kendricks/Armon Watts/Everson Griffen all have 5 followed by a handful of others with 1-3 each. Most of the teams near the top of the league are led by a DE/LB well into double digits. Only 4 other teams (Atlanta/Jacksonville/Buffalo/Denver) have a leading sacker with fewer than 6.

With just 3 games left, the Vikings are actually in play to challenge a super bowl era record: excluding the strike shortened 1982 season (where just 9 games were played), only 1 other team has ever led the league in sacks without having a single player get 10+: the 2005 Seattle Seahawks had 50 sacks, led by Bryce Fisher with just 9. If Minnesota can manage to keep up their team pace without Wonnum or Watts going on an individual tear, they could break Seattle's record for lowest individual sack total while leading the league as a team.

(note: player sacks from pre-1982 are based on Pro Football Reference's "official" unofficial totals)

Kyle Pitts is the first rookie tight end to have 800+ receiving yards since Jeremy Shockey in 2002.

Only 5 tight ends in history have done this and that’s with obviously 3 games left. I can say that, at least in his rookie year, Kyle Pitts has been as good as advertised.

Since starting 3-1, the Timberwolves have gone on a 6 game losing streak, a 5 game winning streak, a 5 game losing streak, and a 4 game (active) winning streak.

Feels like there's gotta be a more normal way to play .500 basketball, but I guess the Wolves don't really do a lot of normal. Just found that to be mildly interesting.

Edit: this is not meant as criticism. The Wolves are playing good basketball and have taken a huge leap from last year. I just find it interesting. How many 15-15 teams got there with two 5+ game losing streaks and 2 4+ game winning streaks.

[Stan Van Gundy] Anthony Davis has missed 49 games for the Lakers over the past 3 seasons. Jimmy Butler has missed 48 games for the Heat in the same time frame.

DeMar DeRozan leads the NBA in 4th quarter PPG (8.2) and is shooting 50/40/90 in 4th quarters so far this season.

Pretty unreal season from him so far. I know the traditional suspects in the MVP race aren’t going anywhere, but DeMar deserves to be in the discussion as well. He’s been an absolute monster and arguably the clutchest player in the league. Really cool to see.

We’ll also randomly pick 56 people who ask questions to get Reddit Gold – one for each of the 56 years Gatorade’s been fueling athletes on their journey to Greatness.

If the Browns win today they'll be in 1st place in the AFC North and the 4th seed overall. If they lose they will be the 12th seed.

If they win, there's a three way tie with the Bengals and Ravens. The first tiebreaker for a three way division tie is record between the three teams. Browns are 2-1 in those games, while the Bengals are 1-1 and the Ravens 1-2.

If they lose, nine teams will have a better record, and they'll be tied with the Dolphins, Broncos, and Raiders, with the Raiders and Dolphins having better conference records.
