Last season, there were 1.3 travels per game. This October, 1.7. This month? 3.5.
There was a whopping 10 travel calls in the GSW-DAL game last night. 6 in NYK-DET and another 3 in LAC-POR.
That's 6.3 per game. 5x last season's average, 4x this October's average.
A massive crackdown on travels all across the NBA

“Everyone talks about the Victor dude from France,” Magic star Paolo Banchero told HoopsHype when asked who compares to Bol. “I’m not trying to compare them, but Bol’s 7-foot-2, shoots threes, brings it up the court, makes passes, and blocks shots. I feel like people kind of forget about him, but Bol’s a freak of nature.”
“I don’t think any of us have been surprised by him,” Banchero told HoopsHype. “He was highly touted coming out of high school, and in the games he played in college, he dominated. He’s been capable his whole life. From the first day I got on the court with him in the summer, it was obvious. I was like, “I don’t know how this guy hasn’t been playing.” He’s ultra-talented at 7-foot-2, can shoot pull-up threes, and block shots all around the court. He moves like a 6-foot-5 shooting guard. It’s crazy.”
“He’s unique and tough to deal with,” Durant said. “You’re seeing his confidence growing by the game. He can pretty much do everything on the basketball court. He just needs more reps. The last few years, he’s been in and out of the lineup hurt or in G League stints. I love what Jamahl is doing with him over there, putting him at the point sometimes and the five. He’s moving him around because he’s such a versatile player. It’s great for the league. I think you’ll start to see him continue to be more of an impact player as time goes on.”
“I think most of us would agree that the game is getting taller,” Irving said. “Guys are able to do a lot more with the basketball, and we’ve got to get ready for it. This is the transformation of our league coming in. We’ve got another guy, Victor, playing overseas and more of these archetypes who are 6-foot-11 and above handling the ball and being able to basically do it all. We’ve just got to get used to it and really enjoy what we’re watching.”
Would the Lakers' season be saved by a trade?
Maybe. There is belief shared by leaders in the Lakers' locker room, sources said, that the team is only a couple of players away from turning this group into a legitimate contender. But acquiring the right players could take multiple trades.
Which is why attaching both 2027 and 2029 draft picks to get a deal done with Indiana is such a gut check. Pelinka admitted as much on media day in September. "You have one shot to make a trade with multiple picks," he said. "So if you make that trade, and I'm not talking about one particular player on our team, but it has to be the right one."
Otherwise, maybe there is a way to seek one deal centered on Westbrook and one of the two picks, and another using something like Patrick Beverley's salary ($13 million) and Kendrick Nunn's ($5.3 million) -- the only other contracts on the Lakers' books hefty enough to pair together to salary match for a proven player -- plus the other pick to add another player of consequence.
But the clock is ticking. Even with improved play as of late, at 7-11 L.A. is still three games out of the final play-in spot in the Western Conference.
And the schedule is unforgiving leading up to the mid-January timeline when L.A. anticipates offers could materialize. Including Monday's game against the Pacers, 15 of the Lakers' next 23 games between now and Jan. 9 are on the road. If at that point, nearly 40 games into the season, the Lakers are still below .500 -- a reasonable concern considering L.A. is 2-6 on the road so far -- would leveraging the future to pour into this group be worth it?
Or should the Lakers play this season out with the roster as currently constructed, use salary-cap space to sign free agents in the summer and explore trades involving picks after draft night when they will have the player they selected with their 2023 first-round pick available to deal?
For now in Lakerland, there remain far more questions than answers.
Tee has always been there for Ja in his career. He was there at his first playoff game, the 52 point game, every single one of them. But the game where he needs his son’s jersey is the MSG game. Everybody loves playing at the garden but never for the home team.
A lot of people say he’s great. I want to see how great he is. I don’t think anybody is better than me. He’s going to have to show me he’s better than me.
A lot of pressure on Lebron. Mathurin is 20. Lebron is playing in his 20th NBA season this year.

Zack Wilson isn’t it and Daniel Jones has reached his max potential with the Giants. It’s not unreasonable to think that both teams will be in the quarterback market next season. A competent quarterback could take either team to the next level. For example, imagine the Jets or Giants this season with Derek Carr. Do you think both teams will be fighting over the same quarterbacks next season? Which team is the better option?

Too early to draw conclusions but it is worth a look:
In the offseason there were reports of an attempted sign and trade by the Pacers in which Myles Turner and other assets would have gone to the Suns in exchange for Ayton. Eventually Deandre Ayton signed a maximum offer sheet with the Pacers that was worth four years, $133 million. The Phoenix Suns match it almost immediately.
Myles Turner is averaging 18.6/8.4/1.4, 2.8 bpg and 0.8 spg on 55/45/84 splits and 29 minutes per game.
Deandre Ayton is averaging 14.6/8.5/2.2, 0.6 bpg and 0.6 spg on 58/27/66 splits and 28.5 minutes per game.

Jaylen Brown posted this meme on his Instagram story amid the backlash and reactions to his recent Tweets and statements in support of Kyrie Irving.

What do you realistically think will come of this? I don’t see the Celtics organization doing anything unless he does something even more blatant.
Brown continues to disappoint Celtics fans with these antics and refusal to apologize and take ownership of his actions. I think that a lot of us (at least most of us on r/BostonCeltics) are pretty much fed up with it at this point.
Russ has thrown 7 TDs all season, an average of .7 TDs per game. Russ and Ciara bought this $25 million mansion with 12 bathrooms in April.
If Russ continues at his current pace, he’ll throw 11.9 TDs this season, just missing the cutoff for 1 TD per bathroom in his house.
EDIT: It has come to my attention that TikTok user GarrettLee496 has been tracking this stat all season, so go give him a follow for thinking of it first and for further important TD/BI (Touchdown/Bathroom Index) updates.

Every year the Sixers give first year season ticket holders a chance to participate in “Rookie Orientation”, an event where you go to the game early to hear the ins and outs of your benefits as a season ticket holder. Then, after the game you get to take your picture at center court and then shoot a free throw on an NBA hoop. Pretty neat. I was lucky enough to partake in this event last year, I missed my free throw very badly.
Well, last night was one of those nights. That is the reason that so many videos of the incident were captured so close up, because the fans waiting to go on the court were all lined up and waiting.
I specifically remember that the guy shooting his free throw before me last year asked “Can I shoot a 3 instead?” and the worker said something like “No, I want to go home and I’m not chasing that rebound.”
I think this context is extremely important because Giannis was being called an asshole for all of about 5 minutes for not letting the employees do their job so they can get home. But then The Athletic posted their fluff piece and now it’s Trez and all of the Philly employees that are the assholes.
Also, I understand that one rebuttal to this will be “But what about Trez? Wasn’t he also holding up the event by putting up shots?” To which I say yes, possibly. But do we really think that he was planning on staying late to put up shots? Or does it make much more sense that he saw an opportunity to antagonize Giannis and be the enforcer for the Wells Fargo Center employees? I think that is much more on brand for him.
Aaron Rodgers is 3-45 in his entire career when trailing by double digit points in the 4th quarter, and one of those victories just came against the Cowboys this past Sunday.. so prior to that, he was 2-44.
Meanwhile, Cousins has 3 of those games this season and the Vikings just keep finding ways to win.
Kirk Cousins leads the league in 4th quarter comebacks this season with 5.
Is Kirko Chainz the most clutch player in the NFL?
The Kangz are looking great! Last night's shooting numbers:
FGs: 48/83 (57.8%)
3s : 12/30 (40.0%)
FTs: 22/24 (91.7%)
Full quote:
I mean, I play the game a certain way with a certain aggressiveness to go out and do my part and put pressure on the other team to worry about me, worry about the shots I can help create. On the defensive end, I try to do my job. There's parts where in the flow of the game, where I miss a box-out and it feeds into everything else we're struggling with, like the details of the game. So. yeah, I'm scoring great, trying to be efficient, gotta keep doing that, but there's a collective mindset around how I need to help out everyone get in the right frame of mind to win, and I'm ready for the challenge of figuring that out.

“Look at our starting lineup. Edmond Sumner, Royce O’Neale, Joe Harris, [Nic] Claxton and me. It’s not disrespect, but what are you expecting from that group? Durant asked of B/R. “You expect us to win because I’m out there. So if you’re watching from that lens, you’re expecting us to play well because No. 7 is out there.
"I’m really having a good time. I wish y'all could hear me talk during the game. If I got mic’d up more, people would stop asking me if I'm happy or not. I'm enjoying every moment I get to step on this f--king court, and part of it is because I tore my Achilles. And the pandemic, I didn’t know if we were going to play again. I didn't know if I was going to play again.
"I was just like, 'This can't be it for me.' I have to really enjoy every single moment I'm out here. That’s part of being a pro. I have to be coachable, I have to knock down shots, I have to be aggressive, and I have to talk to my teammates the right way. That's the journey and the battle.
"All that extra s--t like, ‘You got to win before you retire and make sure your legacy is straight,’ that’s bulls--t to me. My legacy is predicated on what Cam Thomas is learning from me and what he’ll take away to help him by the time he’s in his 10th year. That’s my legacy. What I did with Andre Roberson, the confidence I helped him build when he was in the league. That's my legacy. Being able to play with Russell Westbrook, Steph Curry and Kyrie and still be me. Yeah, that's my legacy. That's who I am. That's what I bring to the game.
"I can play with anybody, anywhere, at any time, and you know I'm going bring it every day. That should be my legacy."

Now Tua has the weapons and fringe MVP season while Herbert is throwing to Josh Palmer and his numbers look a lot closer to rookie Tua. The truth is situation matters so much when evaluating QBs and it was probably never fair to bury Tua or fit Herbert for his HoF jacket before this year.
Lauri Markannen missed two clutch free throws with with 20.7 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. Embiid said he told Lauri he had to put his son Arthur to sleep when he shot those free throws late in the 4th quarter, so he wanted him to miss to avoid overtime. Embiid admitted he lied - he said Arthur is in bed every night at 7:30pm sharp.

The grizzlies just played terribly in 3rd but still extended lead. Seeing Wolves in person is jarring. That spirit they had when last saw em in playoffs is gone. They hardly speak to one another, and when do its usually met w/ an eye-roll

When Allen’s not on the court, he’s a plant dad of sorts, caring for Monsteras to Parlor Palms, Money Trees, Swedish Ivy and Tulips.
“I just grab a plant every now and then. I like the color green in my house,” Allen said. “Eventually I want to get into gardening. Probably when I’m older and I have the actual space outside to actually create pots, do the little seeds, start the seedlings inside and then when it comes time for growing season – you see I already researched it – move everything outside and get that going.”
Allen is dexterous in the kitchen as well, an interest he developed when he was younger. He experiments with different types of bread. He’ll often bake English muffins and Jewish breads like challah and babka from scratch. But nothing is off limits in his kitchen.
“I made some ciabatta the other day, homemade ciabatta, this garlic pesto sauce, bacon, tomatoes, chicken, it was a good little meal,” Allen said. “It’s just stuff that’s fun to make. I like measuring the stuff out and waiting for the time.”
Cavaliers assistant coach Antonio Lang, who works with bigs like Allen, Robin Lopez and Evan Mobley, said the 24-year-old isn’t afraid to get into DIY projects at home, too.
“He fixed an outfit the other day,” Lang told The Athletic. “He said, ‘Hey, ‘I’m gonna fix the bottom of my pants; I want you to see.’ So it’s always the interesting little things. I’ve learned so much stuff outside of basketball from him.”
That pair of pants? Allen watched a few clips on YouTube to fix a pair of jeans. He didn’t love the straight cut, so he tapered them by going on the inseam, measuring and sewing them.
“I think people really need to know how cool he is,” Lang said. “I’m always telling him that … I mean, the guy walks around with an Afro. No one wears an Afro; that should be cool in and of itself.”
It is important to water and fertilize.
Found this pretty funny. Last year everyone was trashing him for this, but I guess it worked hahaha.
You know, we gave Utah a lot of special moments. But you know, we didn’t get the job done. Him and I have a great relationship, despite what people may feel. On the court, it didn’t work (in terms of winning a title). I don’t hate Rudy. He doesn’t hate me. It was just one of those things where it just didn’t work out, and I feel like we live in a world where everybody’s gotta hate each other and there’s gotta be some negative thing and that’s just not the case. When I see him on Sunday, I’m gonna give him a hug and smile and laugh. And when we’re on the court, it’s time to go at it. That’s really what it is.
Questions: Who were you worried that you were gonna lose?
Darius and (Mobley), JA (Jarrett Allen) — those were the three guys. And I didn’t know the rest of our roster, but Darius and Evan for sure, because I knew what was being asked (of the Jazz in trade talks) from New York.
Question: What all was being asked by New York?
I was told it was RJ (Barrett) and hella (draft) picks. That’s what I heard. And I thought that was happening. I thought that was it. I’m there (on the East Coast) all offseason. I’m there in the summer. So that’s why I thought, “All right, this is gonna be a long haul in Cleveland (if they gave up Garland, Mobley and/or Allen in the deal).” But when I found out those guys were (not in the deal), it was like, “All right, we can really do something. Like, we really could do something.” Nothing to slight the guys that were involved in the deal going to Utah. But for me, it was just like, “We have the talent.” I said it at the press conference: Our talent is scary, but we’ve got to go out there and do it.
Question: So one other thing I have not had clarity on is that if you go back to last year, and we had reported that, essentially, if the Jazz were going to move you that you were focused on Brooklyn, New York and Miami.
I never said that. I don’t know where that came from. I didn’t say that. I didn’t say a lot.

Per Callie Caplan on Twitter - Luka reacting to comments about his high usage rate taking a toll on his production:
Luka Doncic on his NBA-high usage rate: "I don’t watch the statistics because nowadays you guys have statistics for everything — whoever drinks one espresso before the game and scores five points gets the record."
That his coffee fix today?
“No, I had a couple more than that.”
The relationship between Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving and Nike is likely severed for good, the shoe giant's co-founder told CNBC.
"I would doubt that we go back," co-founder Phil Knight said in an interview that aired Thursday. "But I don't know for sure."
Nike announced last Friday that it has "suspended" its relationship with Irving and canceled its plans to release his next signature shoe, part of the massive fallout that followed his tweeting a link to a film containing antisemitic material.

Hey r/NFL!
As many of you know, Elon Musk rolled out a new subscription feature on Twitter that gives a blue verified checkmark to anyone willing to cough up $8/month for it. It has created some rather interesting results.
Some of the tweets we've seen in the last few days include:
A "verified" Nintendo account tweeting out Mario giving a middle finger
A "verified" O.J. Simpson account tweeting out that he "did it." (In fairness, OJ Simpson already wrote a book kinda sorta admitting that he might have possibly maybe done it, but we're not gonna touch that with a ten foot pole...)
A "verified" Adam Schefter account saying McDaniels was out as the Raiders coach.
A "verified" LeBron James account demanding a trade from the LA Lakers
A "verified" Rudy Giulliani account mocking Texas Governor Greg Abbott for getting paralyzed.
So, per our rules on Twitter sources which state that "Tweets should be from a reputable reporter, (bolded for emphasis) news source/agency, player, team or league official," make sure you scrutinize everything you're posting.
Because Mario doesn't flip the dirty bird, LeBron James doesn't want to be traded, and OJ Simpson didn't kill anybody.
Thanks for coming to my TedXTalk.

Hakeem stands at the top of the all-time blocks list with 3830 (Mutumbo in second with 3289).
In third place, we have Kareem, with 3189.
Thing is, the league didn't count blocks his first four season.
He average 2.6 per game on his carer, but even assuming that he only averaged 2 a game during those seasons, that would put him firmly in first place, and had he averaged his career average, he'd be over 4,000.
To put this in context, Dwight is the only 'active' player (though he is not currently signed) who is in the top 25 (he's at 15 with 2228).
That means that Dwight would have to play over 800 games (close to 11 healthy seasons) at his career average to pass Hakeem.
The real question here is, where would Wilt be had they recorded blocks when he played?

It's clear to me that the Wolves have some major adjustments to make. They got exactly what they hoped for on defense, at least with Gobert on the floor. But they have no idea whatsoever how to play offense with him on the floor.
The Jazz had the best offense in the NBA with Gobert, and outside of their disastrous last season they got better on offense with him on the floor.
It's unclear what adjustments can be made without making changes to the roster, but it seems evident that just saying "DLo is gonna feast in the PNR with Rudy" isn't going to make it so.

nba.com has been a disaster for a while now, but this seems like a new low.
I only know of this because I came in 8th place (screenshot) and therefore won a 100 dollar NBA Store gift card. The terms of service said prizes would be delivered in early August, and I emailed the nba.com contact email address at that time. They redirected me to some "nbadsupport" email address where the employee there confirmed I was a winner and told me I would receive the gift card in the next couple of weeks. Then a couple of weeks turned into "absolutely prior to the 2022-23 season." And now, three weeks into the season, still nothing, 3 months after the prizes were supposed to be sent out according to the ToS. Here are some screenshots of my emails with the employee who supposedly handles these prizing inquiries.
Clearly, my nba store gift card is not a huge deal. But the crazy thing is that the top winners actually won courtside tickets, and so they are presumably also still empty handed (when I last talked to this nbadsupport employee in late October, he said all of the Bracket Challenge prizes were "still being finalized." Nothing has apparently changed since then). That's nuts.
Just overall disappointing stuff from the nba.
Full Quotage:
"Right now, LeBron is thinking for everyone instead of just being LeBron," Frye said. "And it's just like, damn. You just want to see him be able to just -- I don't want to say relax, not relax -- but to be sort of one-dimensional. Do you need him as point guard? Do you need him as off guard? Where do you need him? And he does that.
"Not like, 'Hey, LeBron ... we just need you to do a little bit of everything.'"
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who teamed up with James to win a title with the Lakers in 2020, said that the more shooting you put around the four-time MVP then, the less he looks for his own 3-point shot. Not that James hasn't improved from the outside as his career has progressed, but even with him making a personal-best 2.9 triples per game last season on a respectable 35.9% clip, he shot 79.6% on shots at the rim.
And James ended up taking 448 shots beyond the arc versus 397 shots around the iron last season.
"The spacing was great," Caldwell-Pope told ESPN before the Oct. 26 Lakers-Nuggets game about his time with James in L.A. "The spacing gives driving lanes for Bron and AD, where Bron didn't like to shoot as much 3s. So it gives him driving lanes, and when he does see the help, he's a tremendous passer and he would find us."
Like Frye, Caldwell-Pope said he hopes James is set up to be the best version of himself as he goes through the twilight of his career.
"Just watching the games, it just looks like there's no basketball over there," Caldwell-Pope said. "It's just playing pickup. It's hard to watch sometimes. So from me to him, just get the team together, and I just want to see that spark in him again. I don't think I see that spark in Bron. So, hopefully, he can get it back."
